Educate Bully Tip: Kids can make bad decisions when they feel bullied by their peers. Research shows that peer influence and ample free time means more teens drink alcohol for the first time during summer vacation than at any other time during the year. Talk to your kids about an "exit strategy" to use if they are pressured to drink by friends this summer. Also, calling and checking in regularly with your child gives him an "out," and discourages him from making poor choices.
Tech Tip:
SATs coming up? Have your teen download the Official SAT Question of the Day app for iPhone or iPad. It's free and includes daily questions developed by The College Board to help your student get the score they need to succeed.

Drug Tip:
Be aware of the dangers of abusing ADD/ADHD medications and make sure all medications are properly stored and administered in your home. An increasing number of kids are using drugs like Ritalin, Adderall, and Vyvanse, which create a speed-like effect in the body, for everything from weight loss to staying up all night to study for an exam. The drugs can be especially dangerous if mixed with alcohol.
Safety Tip:
Kids are going to great lengths to consume alcohol, including soaking gummy candies in alcohol, drinking cough syrup (called "Robotripping") and more recently, alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Another dangerous and shocking alcohol trend among young girls (and boys) entails soaking a tampon in alcohol and inserting it to get drunk. Be aware of these trends and talk to your kids about the damaging effects these dangerous behaviors have on the body and the mind.
