 Unity Award Luncheon

MASK would like to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to everyone who attended our first annual "Moms Making a Difference" Unity Award Luncheon on March 28th at the Phoenician. The luncheon was a huge success and an event that left us all feeling empowered, uplifted, and motivated by the selfless work these mothers do every day for their communities.

The first annual Unity Award winner is Lauren Daniels, founder of the Happily Ever After League. This organization works to ease the financial and emotional burdens carried by women dealing with the overwhelming effects of cancer. Lauren founded HEAL just 6 months after her own cancer diagnosis.

Lauren's incredibly inspiring story will be featured in the summer issue of MASK the Magazine.

Please save the date for next year's luncheon, to be held March 21, 2013.

DRUG TIP
Hookah smoking is on the rise is popularity with young people, who can even gather at "Hookah bars" to smoke it if they are 18 or older. It may surprise you to know, however, that Hookah smokers can inhale more tobacco smoke and dangerous chemicals than a cigarette smoker. This is because of the length of time spent in a smoking session as well as the amount inhaled. Make sure your kids know that just because this drug is legal, doesn't mean its safe.

TECH TIP

Many colleges are now examining applicants social networking pages prior to making admission decisions. Ask your teen what they would do if someone posted an inappropriate picture of them or a friend on Facebook.

BULLYING TIP

Cell phones and social networking sites like Facebook bring bullying off school campuses and make it omnipresent for bullying victims.  Privacy settings and parent-teen Internet agreements can make a huge difference in the fight against cyber-bullying, so talk about them with your kids.

SAFETY TIP

According to research, texting while driving is more dangerious than driving under hte influence of alcohol. Thousands are killed every year by distracted driving due to cell phone use. Be the best example possible for the future drivers in your vehicle by only using your cell phone when the car is in park.
