Conselle's Fashion and Image Newsletter |
|
From Image Expert, Judith Rasband, AICI CIM | October 2010 |
Dear ,
We are fully into fall here at Conselle with a successful clothing swap under our belt and our new Fall Classes in gear. After hosting clothing swaps for years, Conselle came back from a hiatus and hosted a clothing swap for women with literally hundreds of items of clothing to choose from. The women enjoyed two mini seminars at the swap on how to dress each body type. We received rave reviews from our attendees on the quality of the clothes and the event -- turns out everyone loved the idea of shopping for free! If you're local and weren't able to attend September's clothing swap, plan on attending our next swap with a holiday theme in December.
We also kicked off our new Fall Fashion & Image Classes that will continue throughout November with Judith teaching "Art in Everyday Dress and Image," Leslie teaching "5 Easy Pieces™: A Smart Wardrobe Strategy," and Sarah teaching "Layering: A Key to Creative Fashion Styling." For people interested in learning more about image and fashion, these affordable group classes are a great way to learn valuable Wardrobe Strategies to save time and money and have some serious fun! If you are local or regional and would like to join us for these informative and educational classes, see the schedule below.
Rana, Rebecca, Judi & Neil in Istanbul | My husband and I recently appreciated some quality time together as he arranged for us to cruise the Agean Sea with stops in Turkey and Greece. You can guess I "dovetail" activites whenever I can. While in Istanbul, I arranged to visit with Licensed Conselle Afiliate Rana Ozsiker. It was an amazing experience and so worth the trip. Flying in and out of Venice, you can bet I searched out Italian fashion trends and original wearable art.
As our weather turns colder, it leads us seamlessly into our feature topic this month which relates to Wardrobe Evaluation, a timely topic.
If you're new to our newsletter, at Conselle we work with a complete set of 12 wardrobe strategies. Each wardrobe strategy is independent, yet each strategy builds on the other, much like the pieces of a puzzle working toward the whole. Each month I'll focus on a specific wardrobe strategy within the Featured Article. Other Newsletter sections will dip into timely topics with applied meaning for you. With limited space, I'll try to choose my words carefully to suggest a range of options available to meet your individual needs.
Warmly,
Judith |

Wardrobe Evaluation Meets Myriad of Needs
Wardrobe Evaluation photo c/o Woman's Day |
October is a great month to consider doing a Wardrobe Evaluation as the seasons change. Conselle's Wardrobe Strategy #10 is all about the process of conducting a Wardrobe Evaluation.
But when are you a good candidate for a Wardrobe Evaluation? - When you need to get more value from your clothing dollar.
- When you look out of date or out of sync with current fashion and you want to update your appearance.
- When you want your clothing to fit better and flatter your body type.
- When you want to look pounds thinner or heavier, without changing your eating or exercise habits.
- When you experience a noticeable weight loss or gain and you need a new image to compliment the new you.
- When you want your clothing to be a better reflection of your personality.
- When you need to coordinate your clothing and accessories to get more variety and flexibility from your wardrobe.
- When you graduate from high school or college and a new image signals entry into the "real world."
- When you're preparing for a job interview and need a credible, capable image.
- When a job transfer or promotion requires you to appear more appropriately authoritative or approachable.
- When you move to a new geographic area and want to change or improve your appearance.
- When new demands on your time and energy demand a simple, easy-care image you can continue to manage.
- When you've passed through a difficult time in your life and a new image can signal positive new directions.
- When you're just plain tired of your clothes or current image and want a change for the sake of change - something less predictable, out of the ordinary.
- When you don't have the time or desire to shop for yourself - when shopping has become a necessity and a nuisance.
- When, for whatever reason, you want to look your best!
If any of these scenarious sound like a challenge you're dealing with, now is a great time to invest in a Wardrobe Evaluation, whether you do it yourself, or schedule a qualified professional to assist you. Contact us for names of Conselle Affiliates in your area.
Wardrobing is a continuous process involving three phases:
- Evaluating what you have
- Discarding non-functional pieces and
- Accumulating new pieces
As you are evaluating your wardrobe, start pulling items from your closet that you no longer plan on keeping and set them aside to host your own clothing swap like the one we hosted in September. Contact Conselle for details.

Timeless Truth
A Wardrobe Evaluation helps you create order in your closet as you build "clusters" of interchangeable pieces (see September 2010 newsletter for more info on clusters). When evaluating your wardrobe, you begin to see what core pieces you may be missing which allows you to shop for clothes with a purpose, rather than on a whim. When shopping becomes a calculated effort, you no longer have items of clothes that don't work with anything else in your closet. Taking time for a regular Wardrobe Evaluation helps you save time, money, and have a closet with clarity and variety. |
Consumer's Corner
If you have a job interview scheduled during this tough economy, it's important to look like you mean business! To look capable and credible, you're smart to wear a jacket or vest. This third layer piece extends your body image boundaries, drawing more attention to you and creating more visual authority. If you get to the interview and realize that you are overdressed, you can always take the jacket off. But if you don't go with a jacket and find yourself underdressed, you're out of luck! If it's a jacket you find missing during your wardrobe evaluation, put one on your shopping list.
|
Consultant's Corner
Now is the time to connect with your clientele and give them reasons to conduct a Wardrobe Evaluation in the fall. Using the questions above as a reference, your homework is to contact your clients and let them know you're available to guide them through a Wardrobe Evaluation. Show them that the benefits of a Wardrobe Evaluation will help simplify their life.
We often read or are advised to get rid of anything we haven't worn for 6 months or a year. It's tempting to buy into cliche concepts about wardrobe evaluation. Don't. Perhaps it's an item of clothing that's only for special occasions and may be perfect for an upcoming event, like a 50th wedding anniversary or holiday party. It's okay for your client to hang onto a few outfits for special occasions at the back of thei closet until needed. When the occasion arises and they'd love to go, they've got something to wear.
I have a 10-pocket fisherman's vest in khaki. While I don't wear it around the house or in town, I sure get my money's worth when I wear it on a sportive vacation. |
Tip for a Fabulous Fit -- Dress Slim!
Discard any clothes that are too small with visible stress lines. | As you go through your closet and evaluate the clothes you currently have, take time to try clothes on to make sure they still fit well. Experiment with new combinations in your wardrobe. Layer your clothes in new ways that create slimming effects, such as a color contrast at center front between a blouse and jacket or vest worn open. When trying clothes on, if you see any tight stress wrinkles across the bust, back, tummy, or hip area, donate them to a clothing swap or to charity.
Remember that clothing sizes vary from brand to brand, so trusting the clothing size alone is often unreliable. You may be a Medium at Land's End, a Large at Chadwick's, and a Small at Talbot's. The size doesn't matter, but ease amount certainly does! Cut out the tag if it makes you feel better. It works!
If you're at all like me and your weight fluctuates, it's okay to retain two sizes in a few skirts and pants so you've got options.
People often think if we wear two sizes smaller, we'll look smaller. Not so. Wearing clothes that are too small only make us look heavier. Make sure you can "pinch an inch" at each side to ensure you have adequate ease in the fit of your clothing. |
