More Thanksgiving Wines for Turkey Day!
Belinda cooked our Thanksgiving meal this past Sunday because she going to be gone this week visiting her sister in New York.
As usual, our Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful with her turkey and dressing being the star! I tasted several wines with the meal that we highlighted last week and have actual 'food with wine' results. The absolute star was a sparkling Rose. It matched up well with the turkey and dressing, but because of its acidity also held up to the cranberry relish and cranberry jello, as well as our family staple at holidays green bean bundles (fresh steamed green beans wrapped in bacon with toothpicks to hold together and sprinkled with lemon pepper roasted in oven till bacon is brown, Yumm!) this dish also requires good acidity in the wine to balance fruit and not dumb it down. Our baked sweet potato casserole and Belinda's mom's family recipe of coke salad (yes real coke with pecans is also a fantastic family dish) all of these combined make a wine tasting conundrum, but we of course make it work.
*More Recommendations for your Thanksgiving Dinner:*
By all means Rose-(bigger and bolder the better)
Crusher Rose of Pinot Noir $15.00
Plenty of oomph to this darker fuller bodied rose to take on the flavors, nice acidity will handle cranberry and green beans as well as complement the dressing and turkey.
Chat St. Michelle Eroica Riesling $26.00
Riesling is a staple for Thanksgiving because of it's bright acidity, the pear and apple notes blend well with all the flavors.
Charles Smith Kung Fu Girl Riesling $12.00
Very light and flagrant, it's dry Riesling with acidity to pop all the flavors with its apple and grapefruit.
