Oct. 2010 News Letter

Belinda, Kim and I recently went to a couple of product line tastings of out distributors and found some new cool wines.  We picked up several new white wines that will bw great for the Fall.

NEW WHITES!!

Arnaldo-Caprai Grecante Grechetto Dei Colli Martani 2009:  $21.00

This is a 100% Grechetto from Italy that is the best selling white wine at Vespaia in Austin, a great little Italian place on South Congress.  It is clean fruity and enough weight to pair with a lot of foods.

Marco Felluga Molamatta Bianco Collio 2008: $20.00

From northern Italy Molamatta is a Marco Felluga's benchmark white wine. A blend of Pinot Blianco and two native grapes Tocai Frriulano and Ribolla Giallo. Flavors of peach, honey and subtle mineral this is a perfect wine for the transition from summer to winter. Enough body to pair with a cooler season cuisine.

Little James' Basket Press White,Vin de Pays D'oc 2009:  $14.00

Another great wine to transition from summer to cooler temps a blend of Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc it is really our jewel of the tasting. A French Vin de Pays is a great bargain at $14 and really, really good.  This type of Viognier comes from the ancient vines of Condreau and transplanted in Minerous.  The Sauvignon Blanc brings crispiness to the creamy velvety viognion. These two grapes are rarely blended but I don't know why! Flavors of grapefruit, watermelon, apricot, and liquorice AMAZING!!

L'Essential Sancerre Domaine de la Rossignole 2008:  $25.00

A lorie Valley sancerre that is very good, best I've had in a while.  Has a great balance of fruit and mineral. Everything you could want in a Sancerre with rich white fruit like peaches, pears and juicy green apples that coats the palate before the wave of citrus energy washes over.  "The finish reminds me of fresh sea breezes, lime sorbet and an endless summer." I got this description off the web but it was so good and on point that I had to use it.  A really first mark sancerre.

Yalumba Eden Valley Viognier 2009:  $20.00

Great viognier with creamy peachy flavors, are well balanced with crisp acidity and spice.  Give this wine a try because you will find that will pair nicely with a variety of food.

Pewsey Vale Eden Valley Dry Riesling: $16.00

A high altitude cool climate Riesling from Australia. A great nose of petroleum and floral with a dry crisp flavor of lime and green apple, and balanced with acidity.  Great food wine and dry.

L'Ecole No. 41 Chardonnay Columbia Valley Washington 2008:  $22.00

A burgundian style chardonnay that has great acidity and ripe tropical flavors along with a slight mineral edge that gives it overall structure and complexity.  This is a really good chard that is very similar to white burgundy.

NEW RED!!!

We can not go to a tasting without picking up a few new reds too!!

This first wine is a highly allocated wine, we only receive 6 bottles and they could be gone by the time you read this letter. It always receives great press and high ratings.

Flor De Pingus 2008 Ribera del Duero, Spain:  $85.00

O. Fournien Alpha Spiga 2004 Ribera Del Duero:  $44.00

This was the best wine I tasted at these tasting and drinks like something 3 time the price.  Jose Manual Ortega the owner/winemaker was there and he is a very interesting person.  He makes wine in Spain, Chili and Argentina.  This red is from 60 year old vines and has been aged 18 months in barrel and is 100% Tinata del Pais a very complex nose of leather and spice, full and rich, has finesse and balance very smooth velvety and voluptuous.

Vineyard 7 & 8  "7" Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Spring Mtn. Napa Valley:  $84.00

93 points from Wine Enthusiast and Wine & Spirits.  Black cherry and anise with great complexity. Finish has a balance of spice and firm tannins one would expect from a Mountain Cabernet.

Orin Swift Abstract Red, Napa Californis:  $26.00

Dave Phinney spent 2 years in Southern France in the Pyrinees-Orientals Mountains of the Roussillon region. Abstract is inspired by the wines he drank there, a blend of Grenache, Petite Sirah and Syrah from Hillside Vineyards in Sonoma.  The aromas are all berry and black fruits with neatly integrated caramelized oak. A dense rich wine with layer of ripe cherry and strawberries, tannins are not forgotten and complete the wine out right.  VERY COOL!!

Laurel Glen Vineyard, Vale la Pena Malbec, Mendoza Argentina 2006:  $30.00

An intensely black deep and luscious malbec, it is exotic sexy and sensuous flavors evoke orange peel, truffles and blueberries it defies comparison. (This is the winery's description, but it is so cool I had to include it)   The wine is a very complex, balanced wine that I thought was one of the best Malbec I've had.  Very different spice and great balanced fruit. Not a fruit bomb!

Seghesio Home Ranch Zinfandel 2008:  $38.00

Great Zin from a Great Zin producer, Home Ranch is a home run. This is tear above the other Seghesio wines that we carry.  Briary flavored spices, lush Boysenberry and Blackberry
