Maui Vacation Consultants:
12 Hotels in 12 Months
KeaLani
Aloha!

Did you know that on Friday, February 12, 2010, there was snow in 49 states.  The one lone holdout was Hawaii.  No snow on Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea or Haleakala.
When you are ready to escape the cold and snow, let me know!!

I have been inspired by the movie Julie and Julia, to attempt to stay in 12 hotels in 12 months here in Maui.  OK, it is a tough job, someone has to do it!  This will give me a specific insight to each hotel so that I can make the best recommendations to my clients.  Even better is that my keiki are getting involved.  They each have their own sections so they can give you the opinions from a teenager and two young girls point of view.

  Fairmont Kea Lani
At the end of January, I was invited as part of McCoy Travel to stay for two nights at the Kea Lani in Wailea.  As we pulled up to the reception area, the bellman were quick to welcome and start checking us in.  Kukui nut leis were given to all 4 of us, I love these as they last forever.  Everything was in order at the Front Desk, very seamless and quick. They also has special Honu (turtle) and Gecko necklaces for the kids.  Another nice touch.

We arrived at our Deluxe Ocean view suite on the 6th floor.  One of the best things about the Kea Lani is that all rooms here are Suites.  Living room area has a sofa bed, desk, armoire with flat screen TV, small kitchen area with little mini fridge and microwave.  The bedroom had 2 Queen beds with an Armoire and TV.  The Bathroom was huge with a beatiful soaking tub and separate shower.  There was also a very creative amenity waiting for us, a plate of all edible tropical scene.

We headed right down to Polo Beach, to play in the surf and sand for a bit.  The Beach Boys will assist you with towels, beach chairs and tables.  They do have some snacks and drinks available for purchase.  The Kea Lani offers a Hawaiian Canoe experience 3 days a week, we were sorry to have missed this.

That evening I joined the McCoy Staff for dinner at KO.  The food was exceptional and the staff was very accommodating.  Ko is an outdoor terrace restaurant with twinkle lights on the trees and large umbrellas.  It did start to rain and the KO staff hustled to make sure we were all covered by unbrellas to stay dry.  My favorite items of the evening were the pork and shrimp spring rolls, I ate all 6 by myself.  And the Kula Strawberry sorbet.  Yummy.

There are 2 pool areas, one for adults only and one for families.  The family pool had a slide and a keiki pool for the little ones.  Plenty of chairs all around, some with unbrellas.  Cabanas are available for rent and poolside food and beverage service is available.  Also there is a Keiki Lani Kid's Camp, Spa Kea Lani, and a state of the art fitness center.

The Kea Lani is definitely a Eco-friendly hotel.  I was very impressed with all of the things they do to limit their impact on the environment.
As we were checking out, the bellman gave us each a bottle of water for the long trip home, about a 45 minute drive.  I saw them giving water bottles to a couple returning from a run also.  Nice, simple gesture that goes a long way.
The Kea lani also has 2 and 3 bedroom Villas down closer to the beach.  These have a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, private BBQ and plunge pool on their lanai.

Overall, we had a wonderful weekend.  I would highly recommend this hotel to those who want a suite setting, Couples looking to get away from the crowds, and families with younger children who need a bit more living space while on vacation.

Jake's Teen Scene
The Kea Lani was an OK hotel by my point.  I liked the greeting we got in the beginning which was very cool. I liked the beach that was outside. It didn't have really big waves but it was still fun to play in.

The part of a teenage boy being alone with no friends is kinda boring. I didn't have a single friend there which made me get bored very quick. The pool was a little kiddie so I didn't like it that much.  Unimpressed by the slide by like i said it was a kid pool.

Maya and Aaliyah's Keiki Corner
Maya and Aaliyah said they liked the friendly people at check in who gave them the kukui nut leis and the necklaces.  Maya thought the separate shower was great, while Aaliyah would rather soak/swim in the extra large tub.  Put a slide in there and we don't even need the pool area.  Both girls got dressed up for dinner with Mom at KO and loved the Spring Rolls and Fried Rice with Jumbo Shrimp.
It was a toss up between the pool and the beach with boogie boards.  Digging a hole in the sand is always a favorite thing to do.
Maya is 10 years old and Aaliyah is 8 years old.
