Concord Family Service Night 2012 Update:

Thank you for another successful event!

The wonderful children and families at Concord reached out and together helped:

  • Family  members of ill children have breakfast on the run at the Minneapolis Children's' Ronald McDonald houses.
  • Encourage early readers and ELS students by creating bookmarks.
  • Cheer ill and elderly people at Meals on Wheels and a nursing home with a cheerful spring placemat.
  • Cats keep busy at the Golden Valley Humane Society with fleece toys to play with and chase.
  • Homeless people in need stay warm with scarfs distributed through the Basilica Outreach programs.
  • Encourage and support ill children with delightful cards.
  • Thank the Troops in Afghanistan for their service.
  • Provide entertainment and  birthday fun by stuffing birthday bags for children in poverty through Cheerful Givers and our 9th Grade Volunteers.
  • STEP stock their shelves with personal care items.
  • Feed hungry people on the streets of Minneapolis by making sandwiches to be distributed by the organization 363 Days.
  • Clean up the Concord Courtyard.

We couldn't have done it without the help and generosity of our donors and volunteers! Many thanks to the Concord PT0, OptumHealth, Jerry's Foods, The Breadsmith, General Mills,  Sheila Cronin, the Shirley Family. Health Office Highlights

Reminder:  The tick exposure season is here. To protect your family from tick-borne illness, follow these tips from the Minnesota Department of Health:

  • When walking in wooded, brushy or grassy areas, wear light colored, long-sleeved shirts and long pants. Tuck your pants into the top of your socks or boots.
  • Check your children regularly for ticks and remove them right away.  Be sure to check the hairline and behind the ears. Check behind knees, waist line, and arm pits. Remember to check your dogs and cats for ticks.

More information about tick-borne illnesses is available on the MDH website http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idepc/dtopics/tickborne/index.html.

Communicable Illnesses: Reporting communicable illnesses to the health office helps us control the spread of illness. When your child is ill, please make sure that you leave information about the illness on the absence line or call the health office. The communicable illnesses reported to the Concord health office for the week of April 23rd are:
Chicken pox   1
Pink eye        3
Head lice       1

Help your child develop good health habits at home. Wash hands frequently, cover a cough, and do not share eating utensils, combs, or brushes.

Pedestrian Tips

Cross streets safely. Cross at a corner, using traffic signals and crosswalks.

- Look left, right and left again when crossing, and keep looking as you cross.

- Walk, do not run, across the street.

- Walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible.

- Be a safe pedestrian around cars.

- Watch for cars that are turning or backing up.

Bicycle Tips

- Wear a helmet.

- Ride on the right side of the road, with traffic, not against. Stay as far to the right as possible.

- Use appropriate hand signals.

- Respect traffic signals, stopping at all stop signs and stop lights.

- Stop and look left, right and left again before entering a street or crossing an intersection. Look back and yield to traffic coming from behind before turning left.

- Wear clothes and accessories that have reflective materials to improve visibility to motorists.
