Amazing Turnout at Greensburg
Huge thanks to those who made the event EPIC!
There were 1,145 Girl Scouts, Alumni, volunteers, family, and friends from across the state gathered on Saturday, April 28 in Greensburg for Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland's Premier 100 anniversary celebration, Girl Scouts Go Greensburg!
This epic event included fun and educational activities provide by great community partners like The Bug Lady and The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and Tourism, as well as Girl Scout traditions like camping and SWAPS, along with great concerts and for the girls and their families.
Girl Scouts could be seen all over town in the newly rebuilt "green" community, helping to plant a community garden, participating in indoor archery, conducting a science experiment, or getting the face painted at the Go Green Block Party! Ceremonies included a council-wide Young Women of Distinction presentation and prize drawings from Cabela's! While live music was heard throughout the day, headlining performances included Gooding, which was a hit with the older girls and Manika, a favorite of the younger Girl Scouts. Special guests included Kansas State Senator Gregory and Carissa Kelley, Miss Kansas 2011!
Overall, it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime event that included traditions and new activities in order to bring Girl Scouts of all ages together in the greenest community in Kansas to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting!

Get Ready for Outdoor Activities
Thinking about a troop camping troop or a SU day camp?
GSKH Outdoor Leadership courses are required before facilitating outdoor activities with girls.
- The home-study Outdoor Leadership Basics 100 can be completed on your own time, and prepares volunteers to take troops or groups out for the day to hike, have a picnic, and get a taste of outdoor fun (without fire-building or outdoor cooking).
- By completing Outdoor Leadership 101, volunteers will be qualified to plan and have backyard camp-outs, host and attend day camps, and have a camping adventure within their own community or stay at any Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Camp property (with the exception of semi-primitive camp sites). Volunteers will also be able to lead cookouts and have campfires.
- Outdoor Leadership 201 provides additional skills necessary required for any overnight camping (tents, A-frames, rustic cabins, etc.) outside your community and semi-primitive camping.
