The Great American Can Roundup
Earth Day Project

Main St, in Hutchinson on Saturday, April 21 between 8:00 a.m. and noon to receive cash for the cans. The roundup helps fight litter and save valuable resources.

Focus On: Volunteer Recruiters
Positions available across the council
If you've heard about the NEW Girl Scout Service Delivery Model, you know that GSKH is improving the way the council delivers Girl Scouting to girls across Kansas, and implementing a new structure designed to meet the needs of volunteers. The new SDM specifies functions for staff and volunteers, at the community, service unit, and area levels, so that girls are best served across the council and volunteer needs are met. Each month in your Connect eNews there will be a highlight of a volunteer position. Keep an eye out for one matching your skills and availability. Don't forget to share opportunities with your non-Girl Scout friends!
There are openings across the council for Volunteer Recruiters to help find adults to fill various volunteer roles, including Troop and Service Unit positions; coordinators and advisors for Series, Events, or Camp; and other short- and long-term volunteer needs. The position description specifies that this will be a 1-year term, averaging 6 hours/month. This is a great volunteer position for someone energetic, enthusiastic about Girl Scouting, and tuned into your local community. Does that sound like you? Interested in finding more adults to work with Kansas Girl Scouts? Contact your MVP Specialist or Holly Slawkowski.

Get Ready for Camp Season!
Check out upcoming Outdoor Leadership courses.
Thinking about a troop camping troop or a service unit day camp? Volunteers need to complete GSKH Outdoor Leadership training before facilitating outdoor activities with girls. The home-study Outdoor Leadership Basics 100 can be completed on your own time, and prepares volunteers to take troops or groups out for the day to hike, have a picnic, and get a taste of outdoor fun (without fire-building or outdoor cooking). By completing Outdoor Leadership 101, volunteers will be qualified to plan and have backyard camp-outs, host and attend day camps, and have a camping adventure within their own community or stay at any Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Camp property (with the exception of semi-primitive camp sites). Volunteers will also be able to lead cookouts and have campfires. Outdoor Leadership 201 provides additional skills necessary required for any overnight camping (tents, A-frames, rustic cabins, etc.) outside your community and semi-primitive camping.
