A new and improved training for volunteers!
Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) has updated and streamlined two former online trainings into one new online training called Girl Scouting 101. Beginning now (December 2011/January 2012), we will just have two required trainings for new leaders, GS101 (online), and Intro to Troop Managements, scheduled with your MVP Specialist or a Service Unit volunteer. Volunteers who have taken the previous two trainings will not be required to go back and complete GS101, but new volunteers should begin with GS101 now.
Girl Scouting 101 introduces new volunteers to Girl Scouts' to Journey resources and The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting, along with cookie sales, safety guidelines, and much more. The training should take about 45 minutes to complete, and you can find it at training.girlscouts.org. You will need to enter the password: aboutGS101.
2nd Annual Girl Scout Volunteer Conference in Southeast Kansas!
Think that you need s'more Girl Scout training? Southeast Kansas volunteers have organized the second annual S'mores University, where volunteers will learn behind-the-scenes tips on running a troop, how to effectively use the Girl Scout journey books, and much more! This is also the place for the winter area meeting AND cookie training!
S'mores University will be Saturday, January 7 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with an optional overnight starting 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 6. Cost is $10 for breakfast and lunch on Saturday, or $5 just for lunch, with the proceeds going to Parsons Girl Scout troops. The location is the Wesley United Methodist Church at 500 N. Leawood in Parsons.
Friday night you can bring your favorite pj's, sleeping bag, and air mattress, and enjoy an evening of connecting with other leaders, create a Forever Green craft, play games, and learn songs. Saturday, choose your classes, interact with other leaders, enjoy a fashion show, and attend cookie training.
