Houston...We Have Girl Scouts!

National Convention in the Words of a Kansas Volunteer

"What a great week in Houston! The 2011 GSUSA National Council Session and 52nd Convention really lived up to its theme, "Renewing the Promise: Girl Scouts in a New Century." As a first-time delegate and a first-time convention attendee, I wasn't entirely certain what to expect once I arrived in Houston. I felt well-prepared as a delegate thanks to our GSKH conference calls and GSUSA webinars, but I discovered there was much more to this event than business meetings!

KS Girl Scouts at National Convention 2011

Prior to the official opening of convention, we had the option to attend numerous workshops as part of Girl Scout University. I selected four sessions from the "I Love Girl Scouting" track, learning about everything from organizing a flash mob to recruiting volunteers in the 21st century. Three "Conversations of Consequence", panel discussions incorporated into the convention schedule, focused on current issues facing girls and Girl Scouting."

Cathy Rodgers is a Leader for Troop #41066 as well as Secretary and Membership Manager for Wichita East Service Unit. See more of what Cathy shares about  National Convention on the GSKH Blog along with more photos of this historical event.

Gift Wrapping at Towne East Mall

Money-Earning Activity Opportunity For Older Girls!

Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland has been offered a money earning opportunity for Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador Girl Scouts to wrap gifts at Towne East Mall in Wichita during the holiday season. Shifts run December 3rd through the 24th. Troops do not have to be from Wichita area, just willing to travel! Girls will need to have the skills for gift wrapping, and each troop will need to provide their own paper and tape. Troops can set their own "suggested donation" rate, and will be provided a sign with the GSKH logo.

Below are the available shifts, though the times listed can be divided into smaller shifts if a troop wants to wrap for just a few hours. Interested troops should contact Patty Williams, 316-684-6531 or pwilliams@gskh.org, and submit a Money Earning Activity Request. Once the request is received troops will be given their choice of shifts that are still available.
