Just a Reminder!

Cookie Credits

Don't forget about Cookie Credits! Girls who sold more than 30 boxes of cookies in 2011 earned cookie credits, which can be used towards items from the council shop, event registrations (even the 100th Anniversary Event), and council-approved troop trips. Cookie Credits must be used by November 15, 2011! If you have questions about Cookie Credits, visit Cookie Credit 411 or contact your local office.

Shop on a Saturday

Council Shops will be open Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Online Training for Your Convenience

Today's Girl Scout volunteers are busy people! That's why two of our adult learning opportunities are available as online courses. New leaders should take Online Orientation and Leadership Essentials within three months of their volunteer appointment. You can find these courses here. Turn your speakers on, enter the password "discover" for both courses, and make sure you select "Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland" as your council. Read more about Adult Learning Opportunities Here.

Note: Beginning in January 2012, GSKH will transition into using GS101 to replace the two current courses, but you are welcome to take the new course now! The password is "aboutGS101."

Fall Opportunity Sale

It's not too late to participate in the online magazine sale! Girls can sell magazines through the American Publishers (AP) website until November 13 and receive credit for the sales. Just give the girls in your troop the troop's online magazine web code, so they can send e-mails to friends and family through the AP website (

Do you need your troop's online magazine web code? Go to the AP website and enter the same user ID and password you use to log into the Trophy Nut Orders website. Look for your troop's web code under messages. If you are not able to login, please contact a Product Sales Staff member in your local office.

If girls in your troop have already sent emails through AP,  they can send a reminder email to those who have not ordered. Sometimes emails sent through AP

land in Junk/Spam email folders. Girls can simply send an email through the AP website to their own email address and then forward the email to their friends and family with a personal message. The link to the online shopping site works even when an email is forwarded.

Pearls of Wisdom

5 Tips on Starting a New Troop

1. Complete your training!

2. Look over the books (including the Journey Books and the Girls' Guide to Girl Scouting).

3. Use a kaper chart.

4. Use a meeting planning sheet to plan ahead.

5. Connect with experienced volunteers and ask questions! Don't try to go it alone!

*From Rhonda Davis, Caney/Sedan Service Unit Manager

In 1914, Juliette Gordon Low sold her pearls to fund the cost of expanding the Girl Scout movement across the United States. It is a symbol of personal sacrifice and sharing.  Do you have your own pearls of wisdom to share? Send them to Holly Slawkowski
