Recap of Past Events
Great Kindness Challenge Success!
Children in at least 35 countries, 6 continents, and all fifty American states participated in the Great Kindness Challenge. Firefighters were thanked, hearts were left on cars, doors were opened for others, friends were hugged, lemonade stands were created with proceeds going to charity, sack lunches were given to homeless and so much more. Love was felt all over the world. It was indeed a magical day.
Thanks to Hasbro, our very generous sponsor, for making this possible. A big thanks also to our Team Leader, Rick Moore, for creating this incredible day of kindness, CRT-tanaka for donating their fabulous PR services, Envisager Studio for donating the GKC website and to all the volunteer interns for their hours of dedication and hardwork.

Kids for Peace Chapter Spotlight: Leucadia Kids for Peace

Leucadia Kids for Peace, led by Delores Loedel and Kristin Butterfield, is a chapter that is focused on service. These big-hearted kids have completed numerous service projects during their almost two years as a chapter. Following are a few of their highlights: Being Thankful: The children conducted a small bake sale and donated some of their own money and raised $100, enough to feed 60 people at the San Diego Rescue Mission for Thanksgiving. The children discussed all that they have to be THANKFUL for. Holiday Service Project: The group worked with the Carlsbad Christmas Bureau Adopt a Family Program and adopted a family of six for the holidays. The children wrote notes of peace and love to all the family members and lovingly wrapped all of the packages for delivery to this needy family. Environment: The group conducted a beach clean-up at Ponto State Beach. The group also recently assisted with the Encinitas Environment Day by manning a booth at the event. The activity at the booth was to take trash and create recycled art pieces including picture frames. Peace Packs: The children worked with an organization called Just Like My Child Foundation that works directly with children and families in Uganda. The Peace Packs were personally delivered and distributed to children by members of this organization. In addition, a bake sale was conducted to raise money for malaria bed nets for the people in Uganda. Between the bake sale and the sale of necklaces made from recycled paper (made by the women in Uganda), the group raised $1,000, enough to supply 100 bed nets. Acknowledgement: The group was excited and humbled to receive the 'Best of Show' award in the Community Service category from the San Diego County Fair for their work with the people in Uganda and collaboration with the Just Like My Child Foundation. World March: The group just worked collaboratively with the organization called The World March for Peace and Nonviolence to raise awareness of this global event. The group participated in the local event that took place at Cottonwood Creek Park in Encinitas, CA on October 18th |
