November 11, originally called Armistice Day, marked the end of World War I. The terrible human costs of that war led to a holiday dedicated to the cause of world peace, a day for Americans to "perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations."
Following World War II, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans' Day to honor those who served in the military.
We invite you to celebrate Veterans' Day with us in an event that incorporates both ideas: let's honor our veterans by working for lasting peace. We love our veterans, but frankly, we don't want more of them.
Two local chapters of Veterans for Peace has organized a rally and march in Rockville, starting today at 1:30 p.m. Please join us there. Details in the calendar.
Town Halls Followup Meeting: Dec. 3
The final Maryland Town Hall this fall to shift the budget debate took place on Monday, Nov. 7, in Largo. What's next in our campaign to reduce the Pentagon budget? We hope you'll help us decide at the Fund Our Communities, Bring the War Dollars Home strategy meeting Dec. 3 in Rockville. See the calendar for time and place.
In peace and solidarity,
Adrienne, Alex, Dave, Fran, Jean, Karen, Larry, Mel, Melinda, Mike, Nik, Pam, Pat, Shelley, Steve, Sue, Tim
