The smell from Washington might be from the stink bug invasion--we can't think of another excuse as good! Take the GOP budget proposed by Paul Ryan (R-WI), for example. Then there's the Administration's "budget framework," certainly better than Ryan's plan, but we think it's still quite stinky.
There is an alternative, however: the People's Budget that was developed by the House Progressive Caucus. It smells like roses, not stink bugs!
You can quickly compare these three budgets that offer very different visions for our country, and then you can vote on the one you like best. It's fun, just takes a minute, and we hope you'll do it!
Poll results will be shared with Congress and the media--so, your voice can be heard on the budget. Cast your vote for the plan that best represents your values and vision for our nation in 2012 and beyond.

Got a Mayor? Get Him or Her to Step Up!
There are TEN mayors in Montgomery County--who knew? Now, we're going after them, to engage them in the struggle for peace!
In June, the US Conference of Mayors--meeting in Baltimore--will vote on two important resolutions:
(1) Calling on Congress to redirect military spending to domestic priorities; and
(2) Demanding the elimination of nuclear weapons.
To encourage the mayors to pass these resolutions, our Fund Our Communities, Bring the War Dollars Home coalition will leaflet the mayors and also sponsor two events in Baltimore, both of which we hope you will attend:
- A teach-in on Fri., June 17, at 6:30 p.m., McKeldin Square, at the Inner Harbor
- A rally and march on Sat., June 18, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., from St. Vincent de Paul's to the Hilton Hotel
We are also contacting all the mayors in Montgomery County and urging them to vote in favor of the resolutions if they are attending the conference. If they aren't attending, we are asking them to sign on to a similar resolution that can be made public. Maybe Congress will pay attention to the "grasstops" even if it too often ignores the grassroots!
If you've got a mayor, please ask him or her to take a stand for peace--to issue a proclamation or resolution asking Congress to cut military spending and redirect those funds to domestic priorities. Be sure to tell us the response you get from your mayor!
Adrienne, Alex, Dave, Fran, Jean, Karen, Larry, Mel, Melinda, Mike, Nik, Pam, Pat, Shelley, Steve, Sue, Tim
P.S. Don't forget to check our calendar for information on events and actions!

Today's Quote
| |
May God bless you with anger... at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people,
So that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace.
May God bless you with tears...to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war.
So that you may reach out your hand to comfort them, and to turn their pain into joy.
And may God bless you with enough foolishness...to believe that you can make a difference in this world, So that you can do what others claim cannot be done.
