RIS Fall Gathering - Sunday October 28

Come join with sarcoma survivors, patients, their immediate families and those who have lost someone to sarcoma for a special afternoon.  Plan now to attend our 11th "RIS Gathering" on Sunday, October 28th from 1:45 - 4:30 pm at Arneson Acres in Edina. Charlie McQuire

This will be an afternoon of stories. Our opening stories will be through the music of "Minnesota legend", folk singer and historian, Charlie Maguire. His music highlights interesting people and places around MN and the country.

After being inspired by Charlie we will have fall snacks and then share our own stories.
We have a dual purpose in telling our sarcoma stories. One is be a part of the creative process of personal healing and renewal and secondly to provide background information for a new video that is being produced for RIS to educate the public about the Red Flags of Sarcoma. Favorities Video

Rein in Sarcoma is pleased to have two new videos on the RIS website. Thanks to very talented videographer, Erin Clemens, you can now relive your favorites and see highlights of this year's July RIS "Party in the Park".  If you weren't able to attend you can still get a flavor of what you missed. Save the date of Monday, July 23rd to attend next year.  To view the 2012 "Favorites" video, click here.

In addition, Erin was able create a second video to introduce RIS website visitors to the "People of Rein in Sarcoma" This moving and entertaining video now graces our website home page.  More then a dozen sarcoma survivors, patients and loved ones speak to what makes Rein in Sarcoma so special to them. The 4th annual "Give to the Max Day" in Minnesota is set for November 15th and an anonymous donor has pledge $3,500 to match all gifts given to Rein in Sarcoma during this great day of generosity. That donor is now challenging RIS supporters to join them in increasing that challenge grant to at least $5,000.

To pledge an amount (minimum of $100) to donate to the Give to the Max RIS Challenge Fund  email or call our RIS treasurer, Tom Dougherty (651-484-3361).

  •   New RIS Mission Statement
RIS Logo-1 The RIS Board of Directors as a part of a multi-year transition plan adopted a revised mission statement at its September meeting.

"The Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation is dedicated to educating the public and medical community about sarcomas, supporting sarcoma patients and their loved ones, and funding research directed toward developing new treatments and finding a cure for sarcoma cancers."

The new mission statement is designed to emphasize the three major priorities of RIS: Sarcoma Education, Patient Support and Research.

  • Garage Sale 2012 RIS Garage Sale raises over $3,000!
The September RIS Garage Sale raised over $3,000, a 25% increase over last year's record breaking event! Our thanks to the many Garage Sale contributors, tireless volunteers and all of you who purchased all the wonderful, exciting and sometimes weird merchandise. As one customer said "this is the best organized and most friendly" garage sale she had ever attended.  The event also served as an educational tool with Red Flags Brochures and general information handed out to each attendee.
Julie_09 Young or old or in between if you have or are taking a sarcoma "journey" we would love to have your share that journey with others who can learn and be helped by your experience.

Please take a moment to read Sarcoma stories on our website and to contribute your own.
