Picnic 2012  What a Night!

On July 23, more then one thosuand people gathered to celebrate and honor those we love who've faced sarcoma cancer.  About 500 attended our picnic, including over 100 survivors.  We were led up to the party grounds by the Dirty Shorts Big Brass Band, followed by a big red flag to launch our exciting educational campaign.  The main stage offered great entertainment, as well as introductions to the men and women who are steeped in the work of stopping sarcoma.

All around the grounds, children laughed and adults smiled and the sun glowed. A slight mist offered welcome relief from the heat, as did a wonderful cooling breeze.

Through the raffle, the silent auction, and your donations, we successfully raised over $70,000 to continue our work.  We thank our terrific sponsors and program participants.  To revisit our 2012 Party Program and sponsors, click here.   To read a more detailed recap of the night, including links to a really great slide show, click here.

Red Flags of Sarcoma Campaign Launched!

The Red Flags of Sarcoma Educational Campaign was officially launched at Rein Red Flags of Sarcoma in Sarcoma's 12th Annual Party in the Park on July 23rd. This multi-year initiative will strive to significantly increase earlier and proper diagnosis of sarcoma cancers thereby increasing sarcoma survival rates by as much as 20%.

The Red Flags Campaign is a cooperative effort of Rein in Sarcoma and physicians from the University of Minnesota and Children's Hospital  and Clinics of Minnesota.

Dr Christian Ogilvie formally announced the Camapign during the evening's opening program. He talked about the importance of  making primary medical providers and the public aware of the Red Flags of Sarcoma and the need to take appropriate action to rule out sarcoma diagnosis. As part of the inauguration of the Campaign, Dr Ogilve read a proclamation by Gov Mark Dayton setting July 23 - 30th as the first ever Sarcoma Awareness Week in Minnesota.  Learn more....
