Rein in Sarcoma is pleased to announce that we will launch the Red Flags of Sarcoma Educational Campaign at this year's Party in the Park. The Red Flags Campaign is a new initiative developed to educate and increase awareness of sarcomas both within the medical community and with the general public.
Governor Mark Dayton is proclaiming July 23-30, 2012 the as "Sarcoma Cancer Awareness Week" in Minnesota. The purpose is to help spread awareness of this relatively uncommon but devastating disease, and to recognize the start of our Red Flags Campaign,
Please join us at the opening program (6:30 p.m. at the main stage of the Party in the Park), to meet members of the Red Flags of Sarcoma Medical Advisory Group* who will officially introduce the campaign to the public. From there, follow the red flag to our display table in Sarcoma Corner where you can pick up a copy of our new public education brochure highlighting the warning signs of sarcoma.
* Note: The Advisory Group includes doctors from both the University of Minnesota and Children's hospitals.

Our 2012 Party in the Park Program promises to be another wonderful evening for all.
The free picnic for patients, survivors and families kicks off the festivities at 4:30 pm. The Dirty Shorts Brass Band will lead us to the opening ceremony, followed by carousel rides, children's games and attractions, Sarcoma Garden of Hope, Sarcoma Corner, our silent auction and much more.
Our main stage will feature music by Ross Sutter, Laura MacKenzie and Danielle Enblom. Minnesota originals Tonia Hughes and Rachael Kroog will share their beautiful music at our special closing ceremony where we honor sarcoma survivors, will remember those who have been lost to sarcoma and will finish with uplifting music and the return of the fire dancers. Our Silent Auction is shaping up to be truly wonderful with over $10,000 worth of auction items already received! Donations to date include: Vacations, restaurant and retail gift certificates, electronics, children's baskets, fine art and jewelry, books, wine, liquor, and much, much more.
But we need many more auction donations by July 1st to reach our goal of at least $30,000 to make this year's auction all it can be. Ask at the stores you shop at, the restaurants you eat and other the places you enjoy.
You'll be surprised at how many ideas there are. Many of the establishments where your smiling face is a regular may love to help you, especially when you bring your In-Kind Donation form and RIS information sheet from our handy on-line Resources toolkit. It's also great when you donate experiences, including time at a vacation home or dinner at your home - where you may get to know other RIS supporters. The 2012 RIS Raffle will have over $4,500 worth of prizes. Prizes include:
- A Montana Big Sky Condo for 7 nights and 8 days. Choose from some of the best skiing in the country or enjoy the Rocky Mountains or Yellowstone National Park while staying at this amazing condo. Use in any season.
- $1,000 in cash
- New Retina Display iPad
- Rush Creek Golf - 18-hole round for 2 at this award-winning golf course
And the requested donation per ticket remains the same - just $5 for over $4,500 in prizes to be drawn at this year's Party in the Park. Winners do not need to be present. We hope to sell even more tickets than last year, to meet our goal of raising $15,000. We understand you may think they don't know many people, but it's amazing how many people you know once you sit down with a pencil and paper - or fingers on a keyboard - and consider your family, friends, neighbors and community. With prizes this great, it's really worthwhile to let people decide for themselves whether they want to pass up this opportunity.
You can pick up tickets to sell at the All Hands meeting on June 14th or request tickets (to buy or sell) by contacting Connie Dow or Allan Swartz by email or call: 651-261-1510. |

Of Note...
Ruth Bachman & The Hourglass Fund Project and Rein in Sarcoma are pleased to announce a multi-year partnership to support the work and mission of both organizations. This includes a new Silver Ring sponsorship of this year's Party in the Park by the Ruth Bachman and the Hourglass Project. Ruth will also serve as a spokesperson for the RIS Red Flags Campaign and will financially support RIS through the work of her Hourglass Project. For more info, click here.
RIS is very excited to have received our very first endowment gift. Dean Osterman donated $10,000 from the sale of his and Bev's house to set up an endowment in memory of his late wife Beverly. This is a very important step in looking toward the future of the organization and a realization that defeating Sarcoma is a long term battle. We thank Dean and his family for their forward thinking which we hope will inspire others to do likewise. For more info on this gift and Bev Osterman, click here
The 6th Annual RIS Garage Sale is happening in September. Help make it bigger and better than ever by saving and donating your new and gently used miscellany. All sorts of items are needed. You can also volunteer to set up, mark up and staff the Big Sale (tentatively set for September 13-14). Items will be accepted after August 1. To volunteer and learn more, click here.
