Survovorship- U of M 2012 Staying Healthy After Cancer - March 31

The 7th Annual Educational Conference on Cancer Survivorship will be held on Saturday, March 31 to educate and empower survivors so they are better able to advocate for themselves and lead full and productive lives.

Survivors, their families, and health care professionals will have the opportunity to learn more about new directions in cancer survivorship research, sexual health concerns after cancer, exercise programs for cancer survivors, cognitive function after cancer therapy, staying healthy utilizing a comprehensive healthcare approach, and maintaining a healthy heart. The luncheon speaker will be Ruth Bachman, who will speak on "Growing Through the Narrow Spot in the Hourglass."  A nationally respected writer, author, educator, and inspirational speaker, Bachman has turned her sarcoma cancer experience into a timeless message about the singular constant in life - change. Despite the shimmer of brown grass and temperatures closer to end of March norms than early February, CJ Ramstad's Mud Dogs "pushed on regardless" in their amazing 40 mile 2012 Mud Dog Ride. Our brave riders rode in their quest to keep the spirit of snowmobiling, CJ Ramstad and Eric Skogman alive, and to raise money for the Rein In Sarcoma Foundation.

Pat Bourgeois, speaking for the 2012 Mud Dogs said, "The new snowless 40-mile ride was traversed using old-school leaf spring snowmobiles that have certainly seen "better days". No matter, our cause is just and our resolve is unwavering." Read the whole story!

MN Resources
Monthly Resources
To help connect sarcoma patients and their loved ones with resources available to them in the Upper Midwest and around the country, we are now featuring cancer/sarcoma resources that may be of help to you.  Please let us know of resources that you may wish to share with others!
  • Cancer Survivor Resources - The University of Minnesota has updated its cancer survivor resources and is an excellent cancer survivorship website to help survivors of all ages.
  • National Coalition of Cancer Survivorship - NCCS advocates for quality cancer care for all people touched by cancer and provides tools that empower people to advocate for themselves.  Founded by and for cancer survivors, NCCS created the widely accepted definition of survivorship and defines someone as a cancer survivor from the time of diagnosis and for the balance of life. NCCS's flagship program is the award-winning Cancer Survival Toolbox®, a self-learning audio series developed by leading cancer organizations to help people develop crucial skills to understand and meet the challenges of their illness.
The Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation is the primary sarcoma cancer foundation in the upper Midwest. Our goals are to fund research that may find a cure for sarcoma cancers, to provide education for medical personnel and the public, and to support patients and their loved ones.  We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization, which allows over 96% of our revenues to directly support our mission!

Sincerely,

Peter Wyckoff, President
