Dean Katie Dusenbery has announced that registration is now open for the 3rd  Annual RIS Mini MedcialMini Medical School 2011 School on Saturday, February 4 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.  The 2012 RIS Mini Medical School will be a hands-on and "behind the scenes" look at the sarcoma team's work.  People will divide into groups and rotate to 3 stations, to see:
  • How a tumor specimen is handled and evaluated
  • How radiologists evaluate images
  • How radiation oncologists plan a course of therapy
We then will convene for a mock "tumor board," where an example person's cancer will be presented and discussed.  Those attending should get a real appreciation for the work of the sarcoma doctors.  Registration is open to all who have made or will make a donation in 2011 or 2012, in any amount, to Rein in Sarcoma. Register now, as registration is limited to the first 30 people who register. To learn more and to register, click here.

2012 "Party in the Park"- Save the Date!

The 12th annual "Party in the Park" is set for Monday, July 23rd at Como Park. We are planning a smashing good time, so please join us then.  And join us before then, as we plan together for this party.

In college I ran stairs at the stadium, interspersed with stops for push-ups and sit-ups.  I don't recall how long or far I ran, but I do know this:  I was in peak shape, especially for a girl who was all "student" and no "athlete."

During half-time at my son's football game this October, I saw the bleachers as perfect for my physical therapy.  There I stood in the chill night breeze, bending my left knee slowly forwards, taking pains to keep my body aligned, as I worked hard enough to drop my right foot down a couple inches.  Without jutting out my hip.  Ten times.  This was not easy.  I smiled really big.

Now, I know I'm not 18 anymore, and I'm really happy to be here.  But it's astonishing to see how much cancer has aged me.  I wonder, how has cancer aged you?  And what do you think:  Is there some benefit to all this early wisdom?!?  ~Christin.

The Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation is the primary sarcoma cancer foundation in the upper Midwest. Our goals are to fund research that may find a cure for sarcoma cancers, to provide education for medical personnel and the public, and to support patients and their loved ones.  We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization, which allows over 95% of our revenues to directly support our mission!
