Join us to plan the 2011 Party in the Park!
Please join us on Thursday evening, March 10, to kick off a fabulous start to our 2011 summer event. On Monday night, July 25, we again will join together to celebrate life and honor our loved ones. We need your help to make this a successful night.
The March 10 meeting will be held above the University of Minnesota's Orthopedic Clinic, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Come to talk with your RIS community, learn more about RIS-funded work and join our plans for 2011. Many opportunities are available, for all talents and time commitments. You also will see our beautiful new image, offered again by photographer Greg Murphy. He and his wife will join us there.
At 6:30 p.m., some of your favorite doctors and researchers will be there, too. Stay tuned and register by following this page. |

Dr. Ed Cheng: "It is a privilege"
It is hard to watch patients die. Yet getting to know people who face cancer and seeing how they persevere can be gratifying and inspirational. Treating cancer patients helps keep University of Minnesota Professor and orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Ed Cheng grounded and provides him with perspective. Dr. Cheng considers it a privilege to be a physician, to have the opportunity to care for people every day. He also considers Karen Wyckoff to be a great example of how "you can make a difference. One person can make a difference." To read more from an interview with Dr. Cheng, click here.

RIS Awards New Research Grants!!
One of our primary missions is to fund medical research that may find a cure for sarcoma. RIS funds are focused on promising ideas that are likely to impact patient care. This year RIS was able to support four exciting new proposals, while continuing its Sarcoma Scholar program and its support for the Sarcoma Cancer Translational Research Award. Thank you!! Read here about the awards you've helped support. |
Mud Dog Riders Raise over $5,600!
The 3rd Annual RIS Mud Dog Snowmobile Ride took place under beautiful but cool skies on February 10 and 11. Mud Dogs rode from the Twin Cities to Alexandria and raised over $5,600 in pledges, more than double the amount for previous rides! Conceived by the tenacity and commitment of Eric Skogman, an avid rider and sarcoma survivor, this year's ride had pledges from over 125 supporters. It's not too late to pledge to this year's ride. Inspiration...
When did you last experience the joy of dancing in your living room?
Ear buds or speakers. Bare feet with Christmas lights or chunky shoes in moonlight. Madonna or Rihanna, big band or salsa. Does not matter. Trust me. Dance!
