Dr. Clohisy Answers: Why RIS?
Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Denis Clohisy saves lives. With a world-class multidisciplinary team at the University of Minnesota, he is working to save more. RIS funding provides a creative spark and a vital source for a "hopeful research culture" at the U, which may one day contribute badly needed treatment advances for sarcoma.
For now, each day, the University team provides outstanding patient care, in an environment enriched and energized by RIS. For a report from an interview with Dr. Clohisy, click here.

Creative Life Celebration
On October 23, RIS volunteer Theresa Baultrippe hosted the second annual Throw Down for Beanz. Inspired by competitive cooking TV and held in honor of her son Julian Baultrippe, this gathering brought friends and family together for fabulous food and RIS fundraising. Find out more |
U of M Holds Sarcoma Day On December 9, the University of Minnesota will hold its second annual Sarcoma Day, educating medical students about this too-often misdiagnosed disease. Coordinated by Wyckoff Scholars Brian Febbo and Maura Scanlon, presented by Dr. Christian Ogilvie, this day strikes at the heart of RIS' mission. He will be presenting a lecture entitled "How to not mess up the diagnosis of a sarcoma" for all second year students at noon.

RIS Gathering - Sunday, October 10
On Sunday October 10, a small group of patients, survivors and family members joined to hear the soulful sounds of Rob Everest and to share their experiences. Sustaining community is a core goal for RIS. Of course, this community included children - this time painting orange tote bags for Halloween. To learn more about the music or revisit the Gathering announcement, click here.
This gathering was sponsored by "Pulse," the Christin Garcia fund. Christin is a sarcoma survivor who asked big questions as she sought to integrate a joyful life and her own deep faith with the hard reality that her life could end, leaving behind a wonderful husband and three beautiful children. Her memoir is available on the RIS home page; you may click here. |

All who have donated at least $100 to RIS in 2010 will be invited to join University of Minnesota doctors on February 5, 2011 for a fabulous day of learning about sarcoma. Stitch your own chicken wing! Recognize a sarcoma cell! To read the report from last year's Mini Medical School, click here.
Just two weeks later, on February 19, RIS needs you to help staff a table at the Twin Cities Volunteer Expo at the Mall of America. Shifts are two hours, running from 9 am - 4 pm. Please contact Nancy Hendrickson if you will be there! Learn more and Email Nancy
