Scott Burton Join us for a very special Rein in Sarcoma Gathering, Sunday afternoon, Feb 21st. Because of the interest in seeing Scott, this particular Gathering is open to all RIS supporters. RIS Gatherings are free events designed to support people in their sarcoma journeys.

The February 21st event begins at 1:45 with a time to meet others. The afternoon will feature a performance designed for all ages by nationally known juggler, comedian and sarcoma survivor, Scott Burton.

Scott presents internationally with an inspiring and laughter-filled performance that calls for humanity and passion (on both sides of the stethoscope) throughout the cancer battle. Following the performance Scott will co-facilitate an interactive discussion with the attendees on various aspects of the sarcoma journey.  Refreshments and social time will follow.

The event is being held in the Heritage Room of Bachman's Gardening Center, 6010 Lyndale Ave South, Minneapolis.  Sarcoma Survivor Ruth Bachman and her husband Dale are generously providing this space.  To learn more about this event, Scott Burton and to register, click here.

RIS Graduates Perform Surgery RIS MINI MEDICAL SCHOOL: Students Perform Surgery

On Saturday February 6th, Dean for a Day, Dr. Kathryn Dusenbery, convened the 2010 class for the First Annual "Rein in Sarcoma" Mini-Medical School at the University of Minnesota. The all star faculty was composed of Dean Dusenbery, Dr. Daniel Mulrooney, Dr. Juan Manivel, Dr. Edward Cheng, Dr. Brenda Weigel and Dr. Christian Ogilvie assisted by RIS Medical Scholarship Student Brad Stish.

The curriculum was rigorous and highly informative. It included lively presentations on "What is Sarcoma? Incidence/Types", the "Pathology of Sarcoma", and the  "Principles of Sarcoma Surgery" Of course no medical school is complete without some interesting and challenging "Case Presentations"

After a tutorial on surgery and the proper suturing of Chicken legs by Dr. Cheng the twenty graduating students of the first class of 2010 then had to show their knowledge of surgery by each performing a incision and then suturing up a drumstick. To learn more and see the graduates in action, click here.

Christin Garcia "It took a village to get me through cancer. My village rose up from all quarters, embroidered itself together into these crazy beautiful patterns, and mysteriously provided exactly the grace I needed at just the right moments. Some threads were slender, or appeared only briefly; others were richly interwoven at every step. All were appreciated deeply. I write, first, to thank you for being. I write also to highlight the Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation, grown from tragedy transformed, as so often happens into beauty."

So writes Christin Jaye Eaton Garcia, a poet, mother, wife, lawyer, and sarcoma survivor. In her memoir "Pulse, My Cancer Journey,",  Christin presents this memoir as a rare gift to all sarcoma patients and survivors.  Part reflections, part poetry, part memoir and part a faith journey, click here to read and learn more.
The Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Foundation is the primary sarcoma cancer foundation in the upper Midwest. Our goals are to find a cure for sarcoma cancers through funding research, education for medical personal and the public and patient support. As an all volunteer non-profit organization over 98% of all revenue directly support our mission.

Sincerely,

Peter Wyckoff, President
