Classic Quality - Latest Technology
 February 2011

Greetings!

It happened again!  Day before yesterday the first of my daffodils opened up to greet a cold and frosty day.  Forecasters are saying we may have snow down to 1000 ft. by the weekend.  My bulbs, protected by a deep overhang and warmed in their redwood planter by the late afternoon sun, are confused.  This happens every February. Winter is not over yet!

So enjoy your winter activities, whether you are an outdoors snow enthusiast or more like me and happy to stay indoors and work on projects by the warmth of the fire.  Before you know it we'll be complaining of the extreme heat!  I love the four seasons we have here in our Sierra Nevada foothills.

Enjoy!

Mr. Allen Swift (Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year, at the age of 102.

He was the oldest living owner of a car from new.  He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect

cosmetic condition.

1)  The name of a rubber plantation that Henry Ford tried to establish on land he bought in 1927 in Brazil.  When the price of rubber began rising rapidly in 1925, Ford decided to grow his own.  Synthetic rubber developed during WWII helped persuade Ford to sell out to the Brazilian government in 1945.

2)  Ferrari 308 GTS.  There were three different cars: a 1979 GTS, a 1981GTSi and a 1984 GTS QV.

3)  Although the density of air is slight, the collisions of the trapped air molecules within the tire create "fluid friction" in the air.  This internal friction of the air makes it resist flowing faster or slower than the tire.  The result is that the trapped air rotates with the tire.

How Green is the Prius?

How green is the Prius?  Better fuel economy means less crude oil and less carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere.  Therefore it is greener.  Right?  Not so fast; you also have to look at what it takes

to manufacture the Prius.

Toyota reports that more emissions are generated when building a Prius than a Camry.  The manufacturing consumes more energy and produces more emissions.  In Toyota's life cycle study of the Prius, it determined that the Prius consumes more energy and produced more emissions that a comparable-sized gasoline-powered sedan.

But, it's still cleaner than the limousines previously used by movie stars.
