Greetings!

The dog days of summer are here early this year.
Hot weather is here
The hot and dry weather we've had these past few weeks is already turning some yards brown.  Luckily, we're getting a bit of a break with the recent rain, but the hot dry weather will be returning soon.  Normally, we recommend running your sprinkler 3 times per week, assuming that Mother Nature is cooperating and giving us some rain along the way.

However, during dry hot spells, we recommend that you run your sprinkler 5-6 times per week.  While we do recommend increasing your run times 25-30% using the seasonal adjust feature (available on most controllers), you'll want to monitor your lawn to ensure you aren't getting water run-off from the longer run times.

Here's some helpful tips to keep your lawn green throughout the summer months:
  • If you lawn is already showing signs of stress, you'll need to run extra cycles to catch up.  You can do this easily by hitting the "manual start" button.
  • Run the extra cycle in the evening (after 8 pm) once the wind dies down, or before you go to bed.
  • Mow your lawn at a high deck setting.  If it's too low it will stress your grass.  A higher setting helps keep the roots cool.
  • The boulevard is especially susceptible to the heat since it is a small area completely surrounded by concrete that heats up the surrounding ground.  You may need to run just this zone even more than the other areas of your lawn.
The forecasters are predicting a dry, hot summer for Omaha this year, so keep a close eye on your lawn so it doesn't  "die of thirst."

If you have any questions about how to set your sprinkler system, don't hesitate to give us a call.

Is Your Dog the Friendliest Dog on the Block?

Your dog loves YOU, but perhaps not your Service Technician

While most of us think of our dog as being friendly, sometimes a dog can feel threatened when our service technicians or installers are in their territory  or they get spooked when a technician turns on the sprinklers.

Please don't be offended if one of our employees asks you can keep your dog inside while we are working in your yard.  It's for our safety and yours.

Last week, one of our service technicians got a nasty bite from a dog that seemed friendly when he first arrived at the house.  But when our technician got closer to the house, the dog turned on him and bit him severely enough that he required stitches.  We never want to put our employees in danger, so your cooperation is appreciated.
