In Honor of Earth Day:
Conserve Water and Money with Water-Efficient Sprinkler Heads
As an EPA Water Sense Partner, Nature's Helper is committed to water conservation in irrigation. Next time you need a sprinkler head replaced, consider replacing your standard sprinkler heads with PRS (pressure-regulated stem) heads.
Why Should You Replace Your Heads with PRS Heads?
Many homes in the Omaha area have water pressure of 75 psi (pressure per square inch) or greater. However, the optimal water pressure for a rotor head is just 45 psi and for a spray head it's only 30 psi. When there is too much water pressure, there's a lot of misting and water is wasted in evaporation. Simply put, a PRS sprinkler head knocks down the water pressure at the head, saving you water and money on your watering bill. By reducing the water pressure at the sprinkler head, the PRS heads allow for optimal pressure for the performance of the sprinkler head.
For each PRS head that is installed in your sprinkler system, you'll be saving 1 gallon of water per minute over standard sprinkler heads. If all the heads in your sprinkler system are switched to PRS heads, you could save, on average, more than 45,000 gallons of water annually - that's the equivalent of flushing your toilet 63 times per day for an entire year or filling up two residential-sized swimming pools!
When you consider that the PRS head only costs a few dollars more than the standard sprinkler head, you can re-coup your investment within a couple years. So, next time you need a sprinkler head replaced, make sure you ask us about the water-saving alternative.
