From the Executive Director
Whew!  The weather is cooling, people are running and riding on the Trail, and planning for the Foundation's next 12-months continues.  Our donations, sponsorships and volunteer numbers have never been higher.  It's clear to us and the 5,500 people on our mailing list that the community embraces this trail effort, and isn't shy about saying so.  Through emails, attendance at public hearings, Facebook messages, surveys and everyday conversations, Virginia Capital Trail supporters have proven to be a large, loud and passionate group.  This bodes well for our project, and the vision that we'll be able to claim a world-class trail right here in our part of Virginia.  Thank you to everyone who has been active in showing your support.  You are our heroes!

Victoria Johnson and her tables
Victoria Johnson earned her Girl Scout Gold Award by raising the funds for materials, and constructing two picnic tables located at the Charles City Visitors Center.  Victoria and her mother, Peggy Merritt, have been spotted volunteering at Foundation events, too.  Talk about devotion to the cause!  Thank you, Victoria, for all your hard work, perseverance and these two beautiful picnic tables.

And For The Treasure Hunters

Rumor has it there are some hidden treasures  along the Virginia Capital Trail.  If you would like to find out just what this means, check out the official geocaching website.  Then bring your GPS on your next Trail outing, and see if you can find them.  There are millions of people getting into this new reason to be in the great outdoors.  Thank You Jack Reitz for heading up this project!
