Geoffrey Canada comes to Saginaw |
|
Thank you to everyone who attended the Community Luncheon on March 10, featuring guest speaker Geoffrey Canada. It was a great honor to partner with our friends at the Saginaw Community Foundation and bring such a great speaker to Saginaw County.
More than 500 community members were able to hear firsthand how Mr. Canada transformed the lives of families through his work in the Harlem Children's Zone and how you can play a role in Saginaw County through your leadership.
A very special thank you to the following sponsors for allowing us to open this event to the entire community: The Dow Chemical Company, Hemlock Semiconductor, Horizons Conference Center, Spence Brothers and Nexteer Automotive.

Successful results from 5 year strategic plan |
|
In 2005, United Way board members and staff put together a five year strategic plan. Goals for the organization were created around fundraising, marketing and engaging constituents.
United Way is very proud to announce that we have achieved these goals as well as surpassed our desired outcomes in many areas such as:
- Leveraging existing resources
- Coordinating homeless consortium (SC-CHAP)
- Signing a memorandum of understanding with the Northeast Michigan Call Center to implement 211 in Saginaw County
- Providing nationally recognized outcomes training for the Great Lakes Bay Region
- Assisting nonprofit organizations with energy audits to help lower utility expenses
- Increasing grant income (see graph #1 below)
- Increasing dollars to the community through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program (see graph #2 below)
