Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Friends,

We at HOPe have so much to be thankful for this year!

First of all, we are grateful that we have been able to help people around the world meet their basic needs of water, education and safety.

We are thankful to you, our families, friends and supporters, for all of your encouragement, support and contributions.

We are grateful for those of you who are on the frontlines working with the poor, daily.

We are grateful to our volunteers who have travelled to remote places to see firsthand the needs of the poor, who work at our fundraising events or volunteer their time at the thrift shop,

We are grateful to those who come to dance at our ceilis, shop at our store or simply send a note of encouragement.

To all of you, you are all in our thoughts on this Thanksgiving Day.

                                                         Happy Thanksgiving!

HOPe THRIFT SHOP
HOPe Wreaths
HOPe Thrift Shop

The HOPe Thrift Shop, located at 301 McLean Ave., Yonkers, NY is a great place to stock up on Christmas decorations!  Eileen Kennedy and her team of volunteers have created beautiful, colorful wreaths and table top decorations.  The wreaths are hand crafted and the average price is $40.  We also have other Christmas decorations, Santa figurines and ornaments.

This would be a great time to donate new or gently used toys and children's books to help brighten some local children's Christmas.

In addition, if you would like to contribute your time, we invite you to participate as a volunteer at the shop.  It is a great way to contribute and to meet some of the local people we are helping during this tough economic time.

The Thrift Store is open Friday, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 until 6pm.  Stop by and visit if you can!

The Thrift Shop is urgently looking for computers and printers for a special customer. If you know of any company that is updating its computers, please let them know that HOPe is very interested in the used ones.

Our Mary O'Sullivan, who helped at the Rosie event and is at the HOPe Ceili every month, is in St John's Hospital on the 8th Floor.  Please keep her in your prayers this holiday season.

Congratulations to Ashley Brady, our young techie expert, for her recent profile by April Drew in the Irish Voice.  Her committmenet to the charitable work of HOPe is stressed as an important part of her life.  And, by the way, the accompanying beautiful photograph of Ashley in the newspaper confirms her elegance.

Dear Gerry

I was inspired by the meeting of HOPe last evening.

As someone who works at the UN, representing the invisible millions of people that Passionist men and women work with and for round the world, it was great to witness a group of privileged people enjoying themselves and working together to provide some resources so that the entrepreneurship of those who live in poverty can open up further possibilities for a better life.

The rationale of HOPe seems to be that of building capacity among the people on the ground, rather than thinking of it as a handout.

Justice, not charity, is the way forward into the future.

God bless all your efforts.

Kevin

I love the idea of Hope and her 2 lovely daughters:

Anger that what must no be WILL NOT be

                           and

Courage that what can be WILL be

REPRESENTING THE PASSIONIST FAMILY AT THE UNITED NATIONS

Promoting Justice, Reconciliation and Care of the Earth

All Souls Day.

I think of the living Souls in Haiti, Africa, Central America and beyond who are the recipients of

your love, compassion & hard works.  Each year HOPe continues to amaze me with the bigger and bigger commitments to the poor souls on earth!

In Solidarity,

Father Leo Shea, M.M

Great story about Sylvia and the dress she purchase from Hope.  In the article she mentioned that she wanted to go to Sears to be photographed with her beautiful dress.

If she hasn't already done that she can get the photos and makeup for free thru a local charity. http://help-portrait.com/  They will be doing makeup and photoshoots for free for people in need.  It is a great movement and it will be done all over the world on December 12th.

I signed up to volunteer and they will be doing the shoots in all boroughs.  Just figured I would let you know.

Best Regards
James Supple
