| Sean O'Shea's Marathon Run for HOPe
Fundraiser - O'Brien's Bar, 46th & 6th,
Tues, 10/27, 6-9pm |
Sean O'Shea, who is well-known in the Irish community in New York for his leadership and support for charitable and cultural projects, will run the NYC marathon on Nov. 1st. Sean and his parents have been strong supporters of HOPe development projects in the Third World from the beginning of our organization, almost 10 years ago. So, it is no surprise that Sean has decided to request sponsorship for his marathon run, with the entire proceeds going to HOPe. We ask for support from you & your friends for HOPe by sponsoring Sean in the upcoming marathon. To pledge sponsorship or to request a sponsorship card, contact the HOPe PRO, Gerry O'Shea, at 914 237 4957
In anticipation of Sean's participation in the marathon, O'Brien's Bar at 46th & 6th Ave, is making its upstairs room, with a capacity of 90 people, available for a celebration on Tuesday, 10/27/09 from 6pm until 9pm. A special feature of the night in O'Brien's will be an appearance by well-known singer, Mary Courtney, who will entertain us for the first hour or so of the party. All are invited to bring their instruments for a sessiun following Ms. Courtney's performance.
Complimentary buffet food will be generously provided by the proprietors. A cash bar will be available. We are especially grateful to O'Brien's barman, Cormac McCormac, who facilitated these arrangements with HOPe member, Michael Pryce. The $20 admission will enhance the sponsorship money for HOPe. Please mark it on your calendar. For more information about O'Brien 's event, contact Michael Pryce at 914 699 1503
We thank you for your generous help for our HOPe projects in the past and we are confident you will support Sean with sponsorship, and, if possible, join us in O'Brien's on 10/27/09. |

| HOPe About Town! |
* Joe McCarthy spoke to the members of the Irish Business Organization on Wednesday, October 14th about HOPe and our plans for the future. Thanks to Michael Pryce and Maura Kelly for making the arrangements. * Gerry O'Shea will be Bob Stauf's guest on his cable TV show, Emerald Focus, on channel 18, Tuesday, Oct. 20th and Tuesday, October 27th, at 9.30 pm. Bob and his good friend Cathy Marshall are strong supporters of HOPe. * Congratulations to Fr. Vincent O'Connell, a founding member of HOPe, now residing in Dublin, who will be in New York for a few weeks at the end of October to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. * Good luck to member, Chris White, who has moved to live with his family in the southern part of New Jersey. Chris has assured us that he will continue his support for HOPe by attending some of our fundraising events. * At our October meeting, our members unanimously approved a proposal to rent the space, with storefront, at 301 McLean Ave., from the Kerrymen's Association. This will be our first HOPe headquarters; we are cofident that having a home of our own is a very positive move for us at this time. * Eileen Kennedy is planning to have a vibrant thrift shop at 301 McLean Ave. at least two weekends a month, with all the money going to HOPe. If you have some "stuff" that is in good condition, and you want to donate it to charity, please call Eileen at 914 693 0192. * HOPe president, Joe McCarthy, received a donation of $1000 from Mr. Garret Doyle, president of the Emerald Guild Society, at the Irish Consul General's office on Monday October 19th. Thanks to Mr. Doyle and the Emerald members for their valued support. * Thanks also to Michael Prunty, president of Division 4 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, who will present a similar amount to HOPe at a function at the end of October.
* We are very grateful to Loretta King, President of LiKing Marketing, for volunteering to design and produce this newsletter. | |
