July 20, 2009 Dear Friend of Children & Community Services for Children: The State budget is stalled while debate rages over the future of children. Make no mistake - we will pay later for serious cuts in early education today: remedial education, low graduation rates, and juvenile and adult crime. These are the costs of cutting such programs as PreK Counts Preschool, Child Care Works, Head Start Supplemental, and Keystone STARS. Cuts to these programs will increase unemployment - teachers and others involved in early education and the parents of the children, too. Parents rely on quality childcare and early education.
Imagine the impact on suppliers of food and food service, for example. Imagine the impact on the countless retailers who sell to education organizations and their staff. Our children, our workforce, and our businesses need quality early education today. Please let your local representative and senator know you support a budget that saves Early Education at similar levels to 2008/09. Please call or write them TODAY! Thank you. Sincerely, Sara George VP, Development
