Welcome to the VolunteerMICHIGAN Funding Alert! VolunteerMICHIGAN is the newest program of the Michigan Community Service Commission and encompasses a family of complimentary volunteer initiatives. As we strive to address community challenges through service, we hope the funding opportunities below will allow you to engage additional volunteers and ultimately improve the services you are able to provide.

 

The following funding opportunities are currently accepting applications. The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) compiles these opportunities - offered by outside organizations - and presents the relevant information to you. The MCSC is not offering these funding opportunities directly.   

              

 

Campus Compact MLK Day Grants

 

All students, faculty, and staff at institutions of higher education are eligible to apply. Applicants must co-apply with at least two community partners and partner for the project with a minimum of seven community agencies. Preference will be given to applicants that demonstrate the capacity to collaboratively address specific community-identified needs, communities that have never hosted a Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day of Service project, and to those that integrate MLK Day of Service projects into a Semester of Service: curriculum during the fall semester (beginning on 9/11 Day of Service and culminating on MLK Day of Service) or spring semester (beginning on MLK Day of Service and concluding on Global Youth Service Day).

Delta Dental Foundation Community Mini-Grant Program

 

The goals of the Delta Dental Foundation are to support education and research for the advancement of dental science and to promote the oral health of the public through education and service activities. The Foundation's Community Mini-Grant Program provides support for community-based oral health programs in the states of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Grants of up to $5,000 are intended to promote programs designed to improve oral health, with special consideration given to programs that focus on improving the oral health of low-income children.

Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation


The Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation is dedicated to the goal of increasing economic literacy throughout the United States. The Foundation provides grants to programs with national impact that address the following issues: raising the public's participation in economic education and creating a demand for greater economic literacy; encouraging measurement of economic understanding; developing the application of new strategies for teaching economics, including online instruction; and helping disenfranchised youth or young adults with children learn to participate in the economic system.

Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program

 

By funding projects designed to address the education and training needs of the professionals who help build, maintain, and provide public access to the world's wide-ranging information systems and sources, the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program invests in the nation's information infrastructure. In 2013, the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program will support projects to develop faculty and library leaders, to recruit and educate the next generation of librarians and archivists, to build institutional capacity in graduate schools of library and information science, and to assist in the professional development of librarians and archivists. This grant program is especially interested in developing information professionals who can help manage the burgeoning data generated by the nation's researchers, serve as stewards of the nation's cultural legacy, and meet the information needs of the underserved.

Starbucks Grants  

 

The Starbucks Foundation is granting funds to get youth involved in their communities. Specifically, the Foundation seeks applicants that: (1) provide training to youth to create and implement community programs; (2) Build ongoing leadership capacity and long term engagement of youth; and (3) communicate youth's success stories through various types of media. Awards range from $10,000 to $30,000 each.

Citi Foundation Grants Support Affordable Housing, High School Success

 

The Citi Foundation supports affordable housing efforts, neighborhood revitalization, and programs to help high schoolers find a college or career path. The foundation also supports microfinance institutions and other nonprofit organizations seeking to increase the supply of asset building financial products and services. As part of this effort, the foundation seeks to identify innovative efforts that enhance an institution's ability to achieve scale and financial sustainability and support consumer's asset building goals. Grants will be awarded up to $1.5 million each.

Recreational Grants for Golf Programs 

 

The United States Golf Association (USGA) and the National Alliance for Accessible Golf have teamed up to provide grants that encourage increased accessibility for golfers with disabilities. These grants will support organizations that introduce the game of golf to people who otherwise would not have the opportunity -- specifically kids from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. To administer the grant application process for organizations providing golf programs to individuals with disabilities, the USGA has partnered with the National Alliance for Accessible Golf. The Alliance is particularly interested in applications that demonstrate focus on inclusion of people with disabilities in programs that involve those without disabilities, with the ultimate goal of enhancing their inclusion into the fabric of the community.
