Welcome to the VolunteerMICHIGAN Funding Alert! VolunteerMICHIGAN is the newest program of the Michigan Community Service Commission and encompasses a family of complimentary volunteer initiatives. As we strive to address community challenges through service, we hope the funding opportunities below will allow you to engage additional volunteers and ultimately improve the services you are able to provide.

 

The following funding opportunities are currently accepting applications. The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) compiles these opportunities - offered by outside organizations - and presents the relevant information to you. The MCSC is not offering these funding opportunities directly.   

              

 

HandsOn Network MLK Day Grants

 

This request for proposals is open to the 250 HandsOn Network affiliates as well as out-of-network nonprofits. Eligible applicants should be committed to using Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day of Service to bring on-board new and diverse volunteers committed to year-round engagement as well as building the capacity of their local nonprofit network to engage more volunteers by effectively training and placing volunteer leaders. Projects should include a special focus on activating and serving the veteran and military community as well as an intentional focus on civic dialogue preferably using HandsOn Networks's signature America's Sunday Supper program. Two $30,000 Leadership Grants are available to engage 12,000 volunteers and 500 volunteer leaders. Four $15,000 grants are available to engage 6,500 volunteers and 250 volunteer leaders.

MTV Staying Alive Foundation Grants

 

The MTV Staying Alive Foundation offers grants to young people ages 15-27 who are fighting HIV in their local communities. Grants of up to $12,000 are awarded to grassroots youth-led organizations for 12-month projects that educate or give out responsible and accurate information about HIV/AIDS to young people in their communities, eliminate or alleviate the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS, encourage young people to take concrete action to protect themselves from HIV infection, demonstrate innovation and creativity in their activities, and reflect and honor the culture in which the project operates. In addition to the financial award, grantees receive an additional $500 to buy technical media equipment that benefits their project, a local mentor, a personal grant manager, and training and development.

Cesar Chavez Foundation MLK Day Grants

 

This grant opportunity is open to 501(c) (3) non-profit organizations from Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, and Texas. The request for proposals emphasizes education projects, with a special focus on projects in rural areas, and extra points awarded for involving military families. Projects must involve at least 75 community volunteers in service-learning projects that support educational achievement by at-risk students during the Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day holiday weekend of January 19-21, 2013, and involve at least 100 community volunteers in service-learning activities that support educational achievement by at-risk students during the subsequent months of February through August 2013.

Campus Compact MLK Day Grants

 

All students, faculty, and staff at institutions of higher education are eligible to apply. Applicants must co-apply with at least two community partners and partner for the project with a minimum of seven community agencies. Preference will be given to applicants that demonstrate the capacity to collaboratively address specific community-identified needs, communities that have never hosted a Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) Day of Service project, and to those that integrate MLK Day of Service projects into a Semester of Service: curriculum during the fall semester (beginning on 9/11 Day of Service and culminating on MLK Day of Service) or spring semester (beginning on MLK Day of Service and concluding on Global Youth Service Day).

Delta Dental Foundation Community Mini-Grant Program

 

The goals of the Delta Dental Foundation are to support education and research for the advancement of dental science and to promote the oral health of the public through education and service activities. The Foundation's Community Mini-Grant Program provides support for community-based oral health programs in the states of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Grants of up to $5,000 are intended to promote programs designed to improve oral health, with special consideration given to programs that focus on improving the oral health of low-income children.

Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation


The Calvin K. Kazanjian Economics Foundation is dedicated to the goal of increasing economic literacy throughout the United States. The Foundation provides grants to programs with national impact that address the following issues: raising the public's participation in economic education and creating a demand for greater economic literacy; encouraging measurement of economic understanding; developing the application of new strategies for teaching economics, including online instruction; and helping disenfranchised youth or young adults with children learn to participate in the economic system.

Starbucks Grants  

 

The Starbucks Foundation is granting funds to get youth involved in their communities. Specifically, the Foundation seeks applicants that: (1) provide training to youth to create and implement community programs; (2) Build ongoing leadership capacity and long term engagement of youth; and (3) communicate youth's success stories through various types of media. Awards range from $10,000 to $30,000 each.
