Department of Health and Human Services - Early Education Partnerships to Expand Protective Factors for Children with Child Welfare Involvement Grant

  

This grant will fund projects that seek to improve the socio-emotional and behavioral well-being of infants and young children, ages birth to 5 years old, and their families, through collaborative service delivery. These projects will build infrastructure capacity between State, local, or tribal child welfare agencies and early childhood systems to ensure that infants and young children who are in or at-risk of entering foster care have access to comprehensive, high-quality early care and education services.

Graffiti Hurts National Grant Program

 

The Graffiti Hurts National Grant Program aims to help communities kick-start or add to a local graffiti prevention program. Grant funds may also be used for a one-time project that has the potential to significantly reduce graffiti in the community. Grant funds must be used for projects that begin by Fall 2012 and are completed no later than December 31, 2013.

Library Grant Program

  

The Lois Lenski Covey Foundation, Inc. annually awards grants to rural and urban public and school libraries serving at-risk children. The Foundation will give priority to applications from libraries and agencies with real need and limited book budgets. Funds are earmarked for purchasing books for preK-12 young people, and are not intended for administrative or operational use. Previously-awarded grants have ranged between $500 and $3,000. Successful applicants have proposed purchases to update their children's book collections or to expand their holdings in specific areas.

Fourth Annual Clifford Be Big In Your Community Contest 

BE BIG™ is a national campaign that invites everyone, big and small, to take action and raise awareness for how Clifford's BIG Ideas (Share, Be Kind, Help Others, Be a Good Friend, Play Fair, Have Respect, Be Truthful, Believe in Yourself, Work Together and Be Responsible) can make the world a better place. As part of the BE BIG campaign, the contest will award $10,000 in community grants (one $5,000 grant and five $1,000 grants) to the BIGGEST ideas that best demonstrate Clifford's BIG Ideas! Scholastic and HandsOn Network will work with the winners to bring their Big Ideas to life!  Parents, kids, teachers, and community leaders are invited to submit their ideas.

The Rural Housing Service  

 

Rural Housing Service is soliciting applications under its Housing Preservation Grant (HPG) program. The HPG program is a grant program which provides qualified public agencies, private nonprofit organizations (including but not limited to faith-based and community organizations), and other eligible entities with grand funds to assist very low- and low-income homeowners in repairing and rehabilitating their homes in rural areas. In addition, the HPG program assists rental property owners and cooperative housing complexes in repairing and rehabilitating their units if they agree to make such units available to low- and very low-income persons.

Chevrolet Green Educator Award

Earth Force and the General Motors Foundation are looking for inspirational educators who engage youth in innovative and interactive environmental learning. Ten educators from across the United States will be chosen to receive this prestigious award. You may nominate yourself or a GREEN educator who exemplifies the award criteria; encourages youth to lead their own learning, supports learning beyond the classroom to improve  communities, and creates and sustains local partnerships that connect young people to their community. A GREEN Educator may work in a formal or non-formal education setting.

Classics for Kids Foundation

 

The Classics for Kids Foundation (CFKF) was founded in 1997 in response to a crisis in education. CFKF strengthens string music programs through matching grants, which encourage partnership with local philanthropy. Students with beautiful new instruments are more engaged, tend to practice more, and participate longer in their strings programs. Through the grants to strings programs, the CFKF also strengthens community support for music education by inspiring local philanthropy and deeper, long-lasting connections with local support.

Best Buy Community Grants

Through the Community Grants program, Best Buy teams across the U.S. help students develop 21st century skills and excel in school by selecting non-profit organizations that give teens access to opportunities through technology for grant funding. This year, the Best Buy Children's Foundation will give $2.8 million in Community Grants. Grant amounts will average $4,000 - $6,000 and will not exceed $10,000. Best Buy seeks applications from 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations and public agencies that have tax-exempt status and are giving teens access to opportunities through technology. Location must be with 50 miles of a Best Buy store or other Best Buy center of operations (e.g., corporate headquarters) to allow for Best Buy employee volunteers.

The Tony Hawk Foundation    

 

The Tony Hawk Foundation is dedicated to funding the construction of new, quality skateboard parks located in low-income communities throughout the United States. The Foundation primarily considers projects that can demonstrate a strong grassroots commitment, particularly in the form of planning and fundraising by local skateboarders and other community groups. Priority is given to projects that are designed and built by qualified and experienced skateboard park contractors and include local skaters in the design process.

Environmental Solutions for Communities Grant Program

 

Wells Fargo and the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation seek to promote sustainable communities through the Environmental Solutions for Communities program, which supports projects that link economic development and community well-being to the stewardship and health of the environment. Eligible applicants include: non-profit 501(c) organizations; state, tribal, provincial and local governments; and educational institutions working in states and communities where Wells Fargo operates. Grant awards will typically range from $25,000 to $250,000.

Navy and Marine Corps Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Programs

 

The Office of Naval Research's scientific outreach and educational mission is to develop its next generation of scientists and engineers. These grants will increase awareness of STEM content while maintaining a pipeline of students, particularly those who are underrepresented, in Naval education programs. The grants will lead to increases in the number of students taking college-prep science and mathematics courses and will strengthen training offered to STEM teachers.

The Administration for Children and Families' Basic Center Program

 

The Administration for Children and Families' (ACF), Administration on Children, Youth and Families' (ACYF), and the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) are accepting applications for the Basic Center Program (BCP). The purpose of the BCP is to provide an alternative for runaway and homeless youth who might otherwise end up with law enforcement or in the child welfare, mental health, or juvenile justice systems. This funding announcement and other discretionary spending this fiscal year is designed to ensure that effective interventions are in place to build skills and capacities that contribute to the healthy, positive, and productive functioning of children and youth into adulthood.

The Community Access to Child Health

 

The Community Access To Child Health (CATCH) Planning Funds program provides grants from $5,000 to $12,000 to pediatricians to develop innovative, community-based initiatives that increase children's access to medical homes or to specific health services not otherwise available.

Community Transformation Grants - Small Communities Programs

 

The overarching purpose of this program is to prevent heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and other leading chronic disease causes of death or disability through implementation of a variety of evidence-based programs, policies, and infrastructure improvements. These programs, policies, and infrastructure improvements will promote healthy lifestyles in small communities by improving health and health behaviors among an intervention population. The program aims to achieve this goal by supporting governmental and nongovernmental agencies and organizations, from multiple sectors, to implement evidence-based strategies that align with their mission and to partner with agencies and organizations in other sectors to improve community health.
