Report from Growing Our Food Systems Conference

The food conference brought together a wide variety of people from all aspects of the food system to discuss community gardenengagement, sustainability, and the individual roles people hold within the system. Important models for youth engagement in the food system were presented by members running garden projects in local area schools and those actively reaching out to youth in their area to support community gardens.

South Lansing Community Development Association runs a successful after school youth garden and nutrition program as well as Northwest Initiative hosting the Walnut Youth Community Garden. Keynote speaker, Judy Wicks, founder of White Dog Café, inspired everyone to think locally and make life long investments in the communities where people live. For more information about the work being done surrounding Michigan's food system visit http://www.michiganfood.org/.
