Welcome!

Welcome to the Volunteer Michigan monthly e-newsletter. As always, we would like to thank our partner, Volunteer Centers of Michigan, for providing support to the Volunteer Michigan grantees and for being an invaluable partner to the Michigan Community Service Commission. This is the first monthly e-newsletter that will be sent out from the MCSC to parties associated with the Volunteer Michigan grant. We encourage you to share the e-newsletter with your partners if you feel there is pertinent information for them.

We would like to thank everyone that participated in the last Volunteer Management Webinar hosted by Volunteer Centers of Michigan. Please look for a link to a recorded volunteer management webinar in the February e-newsletter that will be sent out at the end of this month.

If you have any questions about the e-newsletter, would like to contribute, or do not wish to receive the publication, please send an email to vmvista@michigan.gov.

Grantee Updates

Congratulations to everyone that participated in the 2011 MLK Day of service. It has been great to hear success stories about the impact projects made in local communities across the state.

Please use this forum as an opportunity to briefly share challenges, successes, and ideas regarding all aspects of implementing Volunteer Michigan activities. Your input and communication is essential and will help to collectively grow and sustain Volunteer Michigan efforts. It will also aid in the identification of best practices and the development of models that will be of benefit and value to other partners.

About the MCSC

The Michigan Community Service Commission builds a culture of service by providing vision and resources to strengthen communities through volunteerism. In 2010-2011, the MCSC is granting nearly $9 million in federal funds to local communities for volunteer programs and activities. The MCSC is funding 26 AmeriCorps programs, 25 Learn and Serve programs, and seven Volunteer Michigan grantees. The Governor's Service Awards and Mentor Michigan are also premier programs of the MCSC.
