Greetings!

The GodwinsEarly this week Wanda and I had the privilege of spending time with Greg & Kristie Godwin and their family. They recently returned from the Ukraine where they adopted a beautiful little girl named Mikaela. She is eleven months old, has Downs syndrome, and is wonderful! As I held this precious child, she made my day brighter!

MikaelaThe Godwin's adoption story is a common one among the Christian community. They began Mikaela's adoption without the necessary money to complete it, but trusted God for His provision to bring their daughter home. For them, this faith led them to get on a plane headed for the Ukraine while still lacking a significant amount of money needed to pay for the in-country expenses. I won't take the time to detail all the ways that God moved and provided, but I will tell you that they brought their daughter home in time to celebrate the 4th of July with her new family.

There are some wonderful Christian financial advisers out there these days who help believers become better stewards of their money. They offer curriculum, seminars, and books to assist Christians in living financially responsible lives, and I do appreciate the impact they are having. They are helping families find freedom from debt, joy in giving, and stability in a solid budget. At the same time, I find myself at odds with them on one issue...faith.

What the Godwins did, along with numerous other Christian families including us, flies in the face of sound financial advise. To commit to spend money that you do not have is ludicrous and dangerous, right? And that is true if you are spending it on a HD big screen, a jet ski, or the latest fashion statement. But it is absolutely untrue if you are using it to follow God's call to rescue children and save lives.

In fact, the church of Jesus Christ must adopt a new standard for stewardship, because being financially responsible means doing whatever God asks of us. That is true whether He asks us to sell everything and give it to the poor, move to another country, or adopt a child in need of a family. Faith in God's provision as we follow God's call is a bedrock principal of the Word of God. And when believers find the courage to live out this truth, they will find what they need to change the world. Don't believe me? Just ask a little girl named Mikaela.

June 2010 Guatemala Team Report

Guatemala Team - June 19-27
Guatemala June '10
We just returned from another Hope for Home Guatemala Ministry Trip where our team of 12 spent nine days loving orphans and malnourished children in various sites around Antigua and Guatemala City. The impact of this trip was strong as the group was broken by the needs they experienced and motivated to make a long-term difference.

The ministry sites for this trip included Hermano Pedro (a special needs hospital/orphanage), Casa Jackson (a home for malnourished children), Amor del Nino (a Christian orphanage), and Los Gozosos (a Christian orphanage for children with special needs). The days were long and tiring, yet very fulfilling.
 Tamara & David
A few of the high points of the trip occurred as we were able to take children, teens, and adults out of Hermano Pedro on three different days to eat at a local restaurant or for ice cream in the park. It is always a wonderful treat when they get a chance to experience life beyond the orphanage.

Tim & MaraTwo of our team members, Mara and Tim, also had the rare opportunity to journey toward the coast with Dick Rutgers to deliver groceries and a new battery for a wheelchair. During this time, Mara had the opportunity to see Democratica, the birthplace of her adopted son. While the journey was a little scary at times and their vehicle suffered a break-down, both were very glad they went.

Due to our looming transition to Guatemala, we have decided not to schedule the normal fall trip this year.  We have a holiday trip scheduled for December 26 through January 2, but that one is already filled. We are in the process of scheduling a February 2011 trip, so watch the Web site and the newsletter for more information.
An Update on Hogar de la Esperanza

Hogar de la EsperanzaWe are still in a waiting mode as we attempt to sell our home. We have sold the majority of our possessions through yard sales and are waiting for a closing date on our home to have one final sale to get rid of furniture and necessary household items.

We have seen additional funds raised, but due to some unforseen expenses related to our move and ministry, we still need an additional $3,000 in start-up expenses and a commitment of an additional $800 a month of support. While we would like to see this raised prior to our move, we will not delay our departure once our home sells.

During our waiting we have made some excellent contacts with Guatemalan ministries and families who will assist us with everything from our transition, to our language studies, to providing ongoing partnerships for ministry. We are excited about the doors God is opening in advance of our move.

If you would like more information regarding Hogar de la Esperanza simply e-mail Daryl at daryl@hopeforhome.org or click here.  We will send you a brochure and answer any questions you may have. You can also choose to donate online by clicking here. Thanks for prayerfully considering ongoing sponsorship!
Roman Is Coming Home
RomanAt the publication of this newsletter, Jerry and Angie Stoner are in Russia finalizing the adoption of their son, Roman. They are expected to return home on July 17th.

Roman is seven years old and is hearing impaired. He is a wonderful fit within the Stoner family as Angie is skilled and employed as a sign-language interpreter.

Please pray that the process completes smoothly and that they are able to return home on schedule.
