Greetings!
American FlagThis month I have the opportunity to share with you about exciting transitions within Hope for Home Ministries. Each of the upcoming changes will result in both challenges and opportunities and we need your prayers and support through the months ahead.

Over the last several years God has shown me much about the needs of the world that surrounds us. I have been broken as I have experienced these needs in an intimate way through our ministry trips to Guatemala as well as through friends who are serving Jesus in places of great poverty around the globe. I have wept as I have seen these needs through the eyes of God and He has truly begun to break my heart with the things that break His heart.

Each day approximately 26,500 children in our world die due to poverty related issues. If you do your math you will see that this totals yearly 10 million children a year. These deaths are preventable through the simple intervention of food, clean drinking water, and basic medical care, and the resources to provide these are available to the church of Jesus Christ. Yet we do so little to change our world.

For years I have grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of response by American Christians. Yet one of the difficult lessons that I have learned over the last year is that I have been a part of the problem. What have I done directly to save these lives and change my world. After all, I am a part of the church; I am a part of Christ's body.

We continue to believe that the adoption of orphans is part of the solution. International special-needs adoptions have saved thousands of lives, eased the suffering of tens of thousands, and led countless numbers to Jesus Christ. So we continue to stand boldly for the mission and the message of adoption and that will not change.

However, that is only part of the answer. The rest of the solution lies in saving lives by feeding, treating, and loving them right where they are. That is the heart behind the upcoming changes. Please read on and follow the Spirit's leading.

Hope for Home Is Going International
Wanda and kids at HPIn recent months you have read in our updates about our increasing ministry in Guatemala through our regular ministry trips. It is no secret that we have had an increasing love and concern for the children of that nation, and that growing burden has led us to a major transition for our family. Namely, we will be moving to Guatemala to establish a group home for children with special needs.

Disabled children in Guatemala are suffering greatly and are in need of direct intervention that we can provide. Our desire is to do so through a family based care system that will care for the children in individual home settings instead of an institutional setting. House parents will care for groups of children with support staff to assist. As our help and funding increases we will increase our size through the addition of family style structures. Through such a system we will be able to feed, clothe, medically treat, and provide therapy for each child within a loving family setting.

While many of the details remain unclear, we are hoping to make this move in the Spring or early Summer of 2010. Wanda and I will be traveling to Guatemala from September 15 - 24 to meet with various ministry leaders and key contacts to begin making long term plans. We would appreciate your prayers during this time.

As plans take shape in the months ahead we will keep you informed. Please rest assured that we are committed to building the ministries of Hope for Home here in the states while expanding to Guatemala.
