 Murfreesboro Teen Center
Murfreesboro groundbreaking
In Rutherford County, teens remain significantly underserved.  The risks and temptations to teens today are very alarming.  On May 27th the Murfreesboro Unit held a groundbreaking ceremony for a teen center to be called "The Club", which will be a dedicated space to serve teens and their needs.  The new facility will contain a learning loft, games room, computer lab, café, and music studio.
"The Club will give teens in Murfreesboro other choices than being on the streets.  It shows them that there are better options than selling drugs," stated 17 year-old Desiree at the groundbreaking ceremony.
 Cookout with the Military

We are proud to have several Club parents serving in the military.  To celebrate all of our military heroes, the Smyrna Unit hosted a cookout.  The Army National Guard's 1176 Transport Company was invited as honored guests.  Sixty guardsmen arrived in their military transport vehicles and marched into the facility.  Of the 60 guests in attendance, 12 were Boys & Girls Club alumni.
 BE GREAT Awards
 BE GREAT awards

Our Boys & Girls Clubs believe every child has the potential to BE GREAT.  The Murfreesboro Unit honored the children that exemplified greatness this school year with a BE GREAT Awards Ceremony.  Over 50 children were recognized with awards including BE A LEADER, BE CURIOUS, BE RESPONSIBLE, BE A GOOD SPORT, BE SCHOLARLY, and of course BE GREAT.
"I was excited to see the majority of the parents in attendance to celebrate their child's accomplishment," said Ginny Wright, Program Director.  "I believe it is important to take time to recognize excellence in our youth."

Descheun feels the Boys & Girls Club has prepared him for life.  It has taught him respect and helped him know what he wants to be in life.
Upon graduation, Descheun plans to attend art school and pursue his dream of becoming a chef and singer.  He enjoys doing both of these activities on a regular basis.
Descheun would challenge today's youth to BE SUCCESSFUL.  With all of the temptations teens face today, it is easy for them to give in to peer pressure and follow their friends down the wrong path.  That is why it is important that they graduate and choose a career they will enjoy.  "Being on the streets will not provide a positive future for anyone," says Descheun.
