"I am so proud of Preston," said Diane Stockard, Unit Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Rutherford County, Smyrna Unit.  "For the past five years I have watched Preston grow into a successful and confident young man.  I know that he is going on to great things and I cannot wait to see what he chooses in life."

The competition was tough between the top 16 Youth of the Year from across Tennessee.  All of the competitors were outstanding youth, worthy of recognition.

Janine credits the Boys & Girls Club with providing her hope and teaching her to never give up. They showed her how to work hard as a professional in everything she does.
When Janine left for college, the Boys & Girls Club made sure she was prepared and would have every opportunity to succeed by providing her with a backpack, bed set, small refrigerator, school supplies, and a scholarship. While in school at MTSU, Janine worked for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rutherford County.  It was here that she grew as a leader and received support as she moved into her career.
Janine challenges today's youth to BE HELPFUL. "Helping someone who cannot help themselves is our responsibility," says Williams. "For me, it is the reason I am excited about the next day."

Our Kids Café, and after school dinner program, has been extended to include a nutrition class once a month.
Recently, the children learned about the importance of dairy and the many roles it plays in their lives from nutrition to their smile. Rebekah Jacques, a Dietician with Second Harvest, led them in fun learning activities and helped them prepare yogurt smoothies.
During the summer, this program will extend once again to include the children planting their own mini gardens. They will tend to their gardens regularly and cook meals with the vegetables. Stay tuned to find out what grows!
