Valentine Spaghetti Dinner

Cupid visited the Smyrna Unit one evening in February and brought spaghetti and rolls with him.
Over 85 people attended the dinner which was held in honor of Club parents and members.  It marked the kick-off of monthly Family Nights.  "We started Family Night because we want families to bond and make new friends," said Diane Stockard, Smyrna Unit Director.  "It is a great way for our families to get to know the staff better and share their stories, but most importantly, have fun."
Happy Helpers Club

Happy Helpers is a small group service club with over 30 members.  This club is geared towards members ages 6-10 and specifically addresses the outcome area of good character and citizenship.  After their first meeting in January, the members chose to help Rutherford County PAWS.  They prepared homemade dog treats that will be given to all pet adoptees and ran Pennies for PAWS with their fellow Club members which raised $143.91.  Currently, they are brainstorming their next project.

BE GREAT - Bryant

Club:  Murfreesboro, TN
Member Since:  1998
The Boys & Girls Club taught Bryant responsibility, teamwork and self-worth.  At an early age, he learned that everybody is different and how to interact with others.
Bryant never allowed his circumstances to determine his futures.  As a three year old, he lost his mother from a heart attack.  As a freshman at Western Kentucky University on an academic scholarship, he lost his father to cancer.  Bryant went on to major in Corporate Communications, become President of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and graduate from WKU in four years.  In 2009, he graduated from Law School at the University of Louisville.  Today he works as the Rights and Clearance Coordinator for The Mo'Nique Show.
With the pressures and influences in the outside world that often sidetrack the ambitions and goals of today's youth; Bryant challenges children to simply, BE  YOURSELF.  "Being different is never a bad thing," says Smith.  "Einstein was different, Michael Jackson was different; some of the world's most intriguing people have been classified as different.  To be yourself and to do what makes you happy is the true essence of living life."
