Tonight's Classes and 2010 Thoughts
Tonight (Wednesday, the 30th) you have two class options. Lisa's 6:30 pm outdoor Tread Powerfully class is running as usual and it will be gorgeous out! Additionally, I'm having an Intense Strength make-up class at the Seniors Centre at 6:30 pm open to IS individuals and those registered for the Robbie Burns race. It will be a cardio/muscle interval class so come ready to sweat a ton!
With the New Year festivities looming, I can't help but reflect on the year and share with you two thoughts...
1) 30 minutes of physical exercise each day can do wonders at keeping us well, physically and mentally. I will continue to quote this basic truth to myself and others each year because it applies to all ages and really can't be disputed. It's not a gimmicky quote, it doesn't tell you to sign-up for the latest fitness craze and I bet your kids, your parents and your grandparents would all nod their heads in agreement. Foul moods, jittery nerves, sluggish metabolisms, growing waistlines...give them the remedy you possess...move your body. And "rest days" don't mean sit on the couch days and get out the baked goods and chips...they just mean maybe a little less sweat in your 30 minutes by making it a leisurely bike ride, a skating trip with the kids or a walk around a couple blocks at lunchtime with a work mate.
2) Something's gotta be special in each day. Over the past year I've made this a daily goal and I know that many of you believe the same. Small "special" moments or items in each day are so key as transcontinental trips and spa treatments aren't part of my regular weekly calendar. One of my most recent joys has been reading fiction books based on historical characters and events. One TPer showed up to class one morning to loan me a trio of books by Sandra Gulland based on the life of Josephine Bonaparte who was married to Napoleon. So began my eager retreat to my pillow/couch/passenger seat to take some time for myself and journey to another world...no plane ticket required. On February 24th we will be having our second Tread Powerfully event in the evening and I look forward to sharing with you special individuals, experiences, learnings and items that have brought much "special" to my life!
Happy New Year everyone!
