A success....for so many amazing reasons!
Last night, 52 Tread Powerfully members braved the winds that whisked icy water onto the Spencer Smith path and christened our "Walking Into Winter" class. We saw only 2 other brave pedestrians in our travels!
We didn't make it out of the park with that number and instead did a lot of group muscle routines. My two favorite moments during class were the ledge triceps where you seemed to stretch out over a mile of concrete and our circular routine on the cement base where we couldn't see each others faces but could feel the intensity of our bodies. We ended the class with Patti winning the running shoes donated by the Burlington Orthotic Centre where she will be treated to the specialized service Far and her associates provide in terms of gait analysis, shoe selection and personalized care. Sandy also will be sporting a new TP cap...in the parade perhaps?
But, the best experience of the night was collecting the food donations you brought to attend the class, and as you can see by the picture above, my car was full. As the intended food bank was closed for renos, I took your suggestions from last night and wrote the The Compassion Society, which is a location that gives free clothing, food and referrals to those in need and is funded by many organizations in Halton. Their director Mina, who also received the Citizen of the Year award last year, immediately wrote me back and your donations were received this afternoon with the volunteers and I making multiple trips to the car. The amazing thing to me about going to this organization was that the food went right to the source since it was loaded promptly onto the shelves for people around me to select the items they needed.
Thank you everyone for braving the weather last night and making an immediate difference.
