Hello everyone,
A TP friend last week sent me a blog link about an individual who embarked on a journey to get healthy and lose a necessary large amount of weight. He spoke in this blog about how it's not as simple as a trainer creating a plan for you and saying, "There, it's easy, just do it". We each have voices in our heads that have muttered to us since childhood with preconceptions and limitations, we all get tired at the end of a day and have been conditioned to seek food and the couch as a remedy and we all struggle with negative self-views that are sometimes so hard to overcome. Take that and add to it that we live in a fast-paced world where we work lots, socialize frequently and expect so much of ourselves.
I guess this email is about me telling you that I "get it". When you show up to class, I know what it took to get there, I know that you are bringing with you some days so much joy, but also, sometimes a lot of frustration, anger or irritation. Life doesn't have a "Biggest Loser" show finale like occurred on tv last night. We don't live in a bubble surrounded by health goals that offer a big load of cash at the end of a few months or the motivating fear of having to stand on a scale in front of millions of people. And can I say this...thank goodness we don't, because my heart breaks when I see how some people have taken their weight down so low that their bodies will eventually rebel or when I see past members on talk shows in misery after gaining back all the weight. Like anything in life, we can't look to attain a goal without enveloping that goal in the reality of life.
We are on a mission to learn how to create health and a self that is sustainable, while still living a real existence. Just know that I understand, that when you come to class Lisa and I understand that some days you will work 120% and other days, you just want to enjoy the positive energy. When someone says to me "I understand what you're going through Sue", I feel this big release in me and it allows me to move forward with a little more confidence knowing that someone else has been there. I offer that to you and this quote that spoke to me:
How are you going to spend this one odd and precious life you have been issued? Whether you're going to spend it trying to look good and creating the illusion that you have power over people and circumstances, or whether you are going to taste it, enjoy it and find out the truth about who you are.--Anne Lamott (in Starting Over)
Thursday, May 14th - Both 9:30 am classes will begin down at the Travellodge. I am getting my picture taken for a magazine, so if you are also willing to be in the shot (PLEASEEEE!), you can meet a little earlier outside Spencer's restaurant at 9:00 am where the photographer will be meeting us.
Holiday Weekend - all classes are running as usual, with the expection of the Monday Intense Strength being cancelled. Instead, I will be holding a 7:00 am Tread Powerfully class on Monday, May 18th, leaving from Joelle's. All are welcome to join!
Have a glorious week and remember that we go in rain (forecasted for tomorrow), but not in thunder or lightening!
Sue
