Robbie Burns and Vote for Reader's Choice Awards: Because of You
|
Everyone,
Tread Powerfully had a powerful and large showing at the Robbie Burns 2009 8km road race. It was cold, very cold, and heading up Brant Street was a face chiller. There were over 900 total runner/walkers in the race, with over 100 of them being walkers. We had participants in both the running and walking categories which represents the variety of athletes in our group.
We felt naked without our dumbbells...although, wow, what a difference for those ole' biceps. With the cold temperatures, the fans were limited pretty much to the last stretch of course and it was amazing to see spouses and kids out there cheering on their favorite athletes as well as many of you in the group. I didn't spot one person cheering on Brant, Fairview, or Guelph Line and who should we see on Lakeshore? Our very own Jessica holding a sign with our TP logo and cheering us on! She sure made our day on that windy stretch, so thank you Jessica for freezing out there for us and being our cheerleader!
After the race we entered the high school to enjoy bagels, oatmeal and fruit and at 10:30 am the awards began in the theatre. Our Paula from Foot Tools and Bob from Eaton did the announcing and there was a big call-out for Tread Powerfully to which we answered with a big "WOO-HOO". Tread Powerfully ate up the awards, with several placing in their age groups, receiving finishing medals and gift certificates to Foot Tools. I think I can fairly say that for everyone it was an eye-opening experience and a great feeling for the majority first-time racers to have that first race under the belt and all the nerves that come with how to prepare and how to pace. I will post some of the awards and some pictures website link early this week. If you are looking for your results right now, go to www.chiptimeresults.com. All of our walkers finished in under 1 hr 13 minutes, with the fastest time being 51 minutes, 35 seconds. That just shows you how fast power walkers really are. You brought me to tears today with your guts and strength and smiles and many of you said to me, "I beat my goal by a mile"! Are we not blessed to be together? +++++++++++
Thank you to those of you who nominated me for Best Fitness Instructor and Tread Powerfully as Best New Business/Shop.
I came home after the race to see the Reader's Choice Awards edition of the Burlington Post in my mailbox. Tread Powerfully has become what it is because of you and because of my right-hand instructor Lisa and support and promoter Joelle...and I want to explain this so that it doesn't come across as a cliche. When you are TPing, everyone is watching...those eating in the restaurants, those driving by on their way to work and those building the many new condos on the waterfront. Even those who don't see you in action see the change in your attitude and your body and because you have shared your experience, countless new members have joined. Because of you. As one of the hubbies of a TPer said, "TP has taken people from black and white to colour". I really couldn't put it any better. I do what I do because I love it and because when I see a twinkle in a new member's eyes, I know that they have tapped that part of their spirit that responds to power.
It feels odd to put myself out there and ask for your votes, but I see the changes in you and I want those for others. Therefore, I ask for your vote so that people can see alternative methods for health by seeing the name, checking out the website and coming to do a class.
Here's how to vote: 1 Go to www.burlingtonreaderschoice.ca 2 Click on "register" and enter your email address 3 Activate your account from the email sent to you (comes immediately) 4 Log-in and vote under "Best People - Fitness Instructor" and "Best Shopping-Best New Business" (make sure you click VOTE NOW at the very bottom of the screen for each)
When you're online, you'll see that Joelle's has been nominated for "Best Shopping - Women's Clothing" and Amy Montgomery (www.amymontgomery.com) for "Best People - Photographer". Sometimes it's hard in these awards to spot the nominees, so if you are patrons of Joelle or Amy, I wanted to point it out. Many of you shop at Joelles and know what a difference it makes shopping at a location where the owner is intimately involved and you are catered to from the moment you walk in the door. Many of you also know Amy from our TP classes and have been involved in the pendant photo shoots at Joelle's or have seen my beautiful shot of my kids around my neck. These two
entrepreneurial women are part of my learning circle and inspire me because they share honest stories about their lives of work, family and personal growth...and they love to TP.
See you this week and the temperatures this week are cool, but not anything to keep you away. Wear the scarf or the neck guard and get out and MOVVVVEEEEE!
