What's New at www.ecoplum.com October 2011 Newsletter
|
Greetings!
Ah, Autumn. Leaves on the ground, crispness in the air, apple picking, pumpkin pies, and hay rides through the colorful foliage. Love it! Of course I haven't had a chance to do ANY of that yet, just too much going on! But hopefully you are enjoying the season and gearing up for Halloween. Before you buy any new Halloween costumes for your kids - please consider attending or hosting a Costume Swap! While National Costume Swap Day has passed, there is still plenty of time and there are many events going on up until Halloween. Find or organize one near you! Want to know one of the reasons I am too busy to go leaf peeping (besides all the normal "life" things)? WE GOT A PUPPY! Meet Pepper, 11 weeks old, a complete mutt (we don't know her lineage), a rescue dog from the shelter, and my new best friend: | My puppy |
OK, so I know that has nothing to do with anything, but isn't she CUTE? Back to EcoPlum, it's been a busy month. I had a video shoot for an online show (more to come); featured one of my favorite products, Zosimos Botanicals natural make up and personal care products, in my monthly column on One Green Planet; brought on three new writers - meet Jennifer below; got featured in a shopping rewards insert USA Today; and started our new feature "How to Go Green with Silvia." All good stuff! On top of all that, the Accidental Locavore had the opportunity to attend my son's school's Basil Harvest and Pesto making event! When I was in middle school, we certainly did NOT have pesto for lunch! Enjoy this month's issue! Have a Happy Halloween, stay safe, and tread lightly! Best regards,
Gia Machlin

Meet the Ecoplum Team...Jennifer Barckley of the Organic Girly Fashion Files!
As at home in New York City as in the wilderness of her native Oregon, Jennifer has spent the past several years embracing and truly living an organic, urban-dwelling lifestyle. After studying fashion marketing and public relations in New York, she embarked on her eco-journey-working with a leading natural skin care line as the Public Relations and Communications Director, where she created an organic lifestyle magazine and served as its editor-in-chief. Through her travel and work experience in Europe and her visits to fair trade projects, she discovered a more authentic, back-to-the-roots lifestyle in which quality, organic goods and localism superseded mass consumerism. Forever an avid eco-fashionista, she now scours the cities she visits for the greenest of finds, seeking the silky softness of organic cotton tees and jeans and the comfort of indigenous cashmere sweaters. In her on-the-run downtime, she dreams about improving the health of people and our planet through the eco-alternatives of everyday materials, like organic cotton, vegan "leather" and chlorine-less cleaning supplies.

From the EcoPlum Blog : Make Halloween Less Scary for the Planet
Halloween is such a fun holiday for kids and adults alike - who doesn't like dressing up in a costume and eating candy? Unfortunately, it's one of our more wasteful days: Halloween costumes alone account for at least 6250 tons of landfill waste a year, or the weight of 2500 midsize cars, according to the folks at greenhalloween.org.
