Greetings!

Hope you are having a WONDERFUL summer!  Last week both of my kids were away at camp and I partied like a rock star!  The highlight had to be the Paul McCartney concert at Yankee Stadium - 60,000 people singing Hey Jude in unison!  What an amazing night. Did you know Sir Paul is a big supporter of Meatless Mondays?  We've even featured a couple of his Linda McCartney Foods videos in our EcoClipz green videos section.
Here I am at the U2 Concert Wednesday night with my Basmati Handbag!.

Speaking of awesome rock concerts, I also was lucky enough to get to the U2 concert Wednesday night in New Jersey!  Gotta love Bono's commitment to ONE.org, an organization he founded that fights poverty and provides clean water to millions around the world.  Here I am at the show sporting my new eco friendly handbag from Basmati.  I totally love my bag. It's roomy, comfortable, and super light for summer.  It's also hand made and one of a kind.  Here are the two Basmati Bags we are currently carrying on EcoPlum.

We've got a lot going on this summer, and though we won't be back until September with our next issue of EcoPlum Pie, we are adding new products, posting great articles, and running specials in our shop all the time!

In Gia's Plum Picks for July, earn Double EcoChipz on all our Jonano designer Eco Friendly Clothing styles.  I've picked some of my favorite styles for summer here .  We just added some BPA free water bottles with cute and inspiring designs to our shop. Read about my favorite products in my new Eco-Friendly Shopping Picks column on One Green Planet.

So, enjoy this month's articles at EcoPlum including Robin Baron's tips on keeping your home cool , the Accidental Locavore's take on the whole e-coli sprout scare , Dede's coverage of Mark Ruffalo saying "What the Frack?" and Chryso's review of Eco-Friendly Hand Soap.  Oh, and check out my Fab Friday interview on Robin's new blog Simplifying Fabulous!

Enjoy the rest of the summer.  Stay cool, tread lightly, and be kind to Mother Earth.  As my 8 year old daughter loves to say: "Peace Out!"

Best regards,

Environmental Impact of Forest Fires

The flames that have recently engulfed a large portion of the forests in the West and Southwest may seem 'harmless' to those living far away, but such strong wildfires have a broader impact on our environment and economy than we may think. Read More!

Designing Tinier Footprints: Moving Towards Zero Waste

The following is a guest post by Trudy Miller, a design entrepreneur, educator and consultant, specializing in sustainable design strategies for high performance products, services and environments. Trudy and her ad-hoc teams at Clinchdesign have been developing products that reflect an interest in accommodating change and transformation through by designing adaptive systems.

What have people done historically in lean financial times? They made the most of what they had, and nothing went to waste. The up side of the economic downturn is that we have more incentive than ever to review our consumption patterns with more scrutiny, and practice more energy and resource efficiency.

Chryso's Beauty Buys: Eco-Friendly Hand Soap

Welcome to my beauty column! We will devote this space to a different product category for the month, be it body wash, nail polish or bath salts. We'll let you know which brand outshined the rest in the categories of safety, environmental responsiveness, packaging, practicality and results, so that you can make informed choices about what you slather on, dust on and lather up with. This month we review liquid hand soap... Read More!

Designing Green with Robin Baron:  Tips and Tricks to Keeping Your Home Cool

As the thermometer rises, so do the energy bills. And though flipping on an air conditioner is a quick fix to keep cool, both your wallet and Earth take a hit. Burning fossil fuels harm the environment and will eventually make our summers even hotter! The question we then have to ask is with these rising summer temperatures, how can we keep cool while saving money and the environment? Simple changes can make all the difference. The Accidental Locavore: What is Good Food?

The recent outbreaks of E-coli in Europe and salmonella here from sprouts have many people re-thinking that staple of hippies (remember them?) and green food. It's also put a question mark on organic food, since the tainted sprouts in Europe were supposed to have been organic. Organic, doesn't necessarily mean safe and it certainly doesn't mean sustainable.

Dede's Green Scene: Mark Ruffalo Says, "What the Frack?!"

Mark Ruffalo has been making big headlines recently and not because of his next big movie. Ruffalo has come out against hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing or "fracking" is a controversial procedure used to extract hard to reach natural gas from shale rock. Thousands of gallons of water and chemicals are pumped from the ground to break up the rock and free the gas. It contaminates the surrounding water in the process, including the drinking water of nearby residences. Now gas companies want to put drilling wells on the east coast in order to tap the natural gas hidden in the Marcellus Shale. Read More!

From the EcoPlum Blog : Please Vote for Pamela!

This weekend I was up in Cape Cod with my kids and all their cousins.  The cousins were about to spend a whole week with their Grandmas.  My husband and I decided to take them all for a bike ride to give my mother-in-law and her partner a small break before their big we ek.  In a very uncharacteristic brain fart, I forgot to bring ice water in stainless steel water bottles for the ride.  When we got to the break in the bike path by Ferretti's market, the kids  were thirsty and my husband looked at me and said we're going to have to buy bottled water (there were no water fountains in the vicinity).  Grudgingly I agreed.  Read More!
