Ann Marie Rubin grew up surrounded by central Virginia's beautiful countryside, which helped to foster her lifelong devotion to the environment. After graduating from the University of Virginia in May 2005, she moved to New York City and split her time between a job in marketing and co-founding an environmental fundraising and advocacy organization called Eco-Patriots. Working with the Clean Air Conservancy, Eco-Patriots successfully completed their first project in 2007, an outreach campaign that sent a team of cyclists 4000 miles across the country, raising enough money to retire over 2000 metric tons of carbon dioxide--- the equivalent to the annual emissions of 5000 cars--- on the Chicago Climate Exchange. After this project, Ann Marie joined the editorial staff of EcoPlum and also began working at the Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture, an innovative organic farm and education center. Next year she plans to study environmental law to better arm herself for facilitating a revolution in the grotesquely unsustainable food systems in our country. Meanwhile, she is living and teaching in Morocco, trying to cope with the nonexistent cognizance of environmental accountability, and nevertheless, enjoying life in Africa.
