A small thing done in a big way certainly can be wonderful. That would be the best way I know how to describe our 2012 SONM State Equestrian Competition that took place a couple of weeks ago in Clovis.  Less than 50 riders, a couple hundred of the nicest volunteers you could ever hope for, meals that resembled family style dinners, an emotional and personal Opening Ceremony,  a fun-filled concert by the "Almost Andrews Sisters," a Coaches Competition (on horseback no less), a photo booth and a 1950's dance, and  a sense that if the whole world acted the way everyone acted that weekend in Clovis - there really could be a heaven on earth.

The event featured a 16 story rappel down the side of the New Mexico Bank and Trust building in downtown Albuquerque. For months, more than 75 registered participants had been spreading the word and raising funds through colleagues, co-workers, family and friends to meet their goal of $1,000 or more.

In just its 4th year this key fund raiser for SONM raised a record $87,000, which will go to support Special Olympics New Mexico's athletes and sports program statewide. For more information about Over The Edge visit www.OverTheEdgeNM.com.
