Thoughts From Randy

CLINK

One of my favorite sounds in the world is the sound of Special Olympics medals when they tap together as they adorn the chest cavities of our athletes.  Once you hear that sound, you never forget it.  They "clink."

These medals aren't to be taken lightly.  At our State Summer Games alone we spent $3,248 on them.  In the "other" Olympics, coaches and athletes are paid huge dollars when a medal is won.  Olympic medals are  deeply valued and create tremendous national, state, home-town, and personal pride.

Local Tip-A-Cop events prove LETR is "more than just a run"

If you thought our Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) officers were busy carrying our Flame of Hope across 1,600 miles to the 2012 State Summer Games, then we're here to inform you that wasn't all they were doing.

While routes were being coordinated and torches were being handed off, New Mexico LETR officers also made time to host Tip-A-Cop fund raisers throughout the state.

On April 27 - 28, members of the Four Corners LETR in Farmington held their first ever Chili's Tip-A-Cop.  The two-day event raised much awareness and approximately $10,593 for Special Olympics New Mexico (SONM).

"My team members loved having our local law enforcement officers and Special Olympics athletes here, and we're looking forward to the event next year," said Chili's General Manager Lindsey Moser. "Giving back to our community is such a huge passion of ours, and it's tied to our brand. It meant a great deal for us to be a part of this event."

LETR officers in Las Cruces worked in a Tip-A-Cop of their own-collaborating with its local Ruby Tuesday Restaurant on May 24th.  The fund raiser brought in $1,530, and helped spread the word about our SONM athletes and program.

The event was made possible by a number of devoted LETR officers and SONM athletes with their families, as well as Ruby Tuesday's Community GiveBack Program, which states, "we have a history of corporate citizenship and take pride in the support of charitable organizations in the communities we live."
